🚨 PRITCHARD FIRE DEPARTMENT PREPARES FOR A CHANGE IN LEADERSHIP 🚨

The countdown is on…

In the coming weeks, Ella Stratikopoulos will officially step into the role of Pritchard Fire Chief for a Day!

While the firefighters are busy preparing for this historic event, Chief Ella is reportedly already reviewing department operations and considering several important changes, including:

🔥 Mandatory ice cream quality control after training exercises

🔥 Increased use of lights and sirens (strictly for morale purposes)

🔥 More opportunities for kids to try firefighting equipment

🔥 A department-wide review of firefighter snack standards

🔥 Ensuring every firefighter remembers who’s really in charge

Although her official first day is still ahead, we’re excited to see what ideas, leadership, and enthusiasm she brings to the hall.

The firefighters have been warned.

The Chief’s chair is waiting.

And something tells us Chief Ella already has a few plans of her own. 👩‍🚒🚒

👇 Help us out…

What should Chief Ella’s very first official order be when she takes command of the Pritchard Fire Department?

And no we have not forgotten about the coloring contest!!!
Make sure the kids get them all done and submitted for the team

🌸 JUNE FIRESMART PLANT OF THE MONTH: COLUMBINE 🌸

Did you know that some plants are naturally better choices for FireSmart landscaping?

This month’s featured FireSmart plant is Columbine (Aquilegia) — a beautiful perennial known for its delicate flowers, ability to attract pollinators, and lower flammability compared to many common landscape plants.

Why homeowners love Columbine:

✅ Fire-resistant landscaping choice
✅ Attracts hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies
✅ Returns year after year
✅ Thrives in many BC growing conditions
✅ Adds colour and texture to your yard

Creating a FireSmart property isn’t just about removing hazards—it’s also about choosing the right plants in the right places.

What if one simple cleanup around your property could help protect your home — and your neighbours — during wildfire season?

Need to get rid of brush, branches, or deadfall? Let’s clear it out before wildfire season intensifies.

We are organizing a FREE community chipping day through the TNRD FireSmart program.

This program helps residents reduce wildfire risk by clearing out brush, branches, deadfall, and trimmings from around their homes and properties. Once the materials are ready, crews come through, pick them up, chip them, and haul them away.

Here’s the important part:
We need a minimum of 5 committed households before a date can be confirmed.

We are currently looking at a possible date within the first two weeks of July.
Date TBA soon.

To participate, brush piles must follow the program requirements:

✅ Materials must be left at the access point to your property, such as your driveway entrance
✅ Please do not leave materials on the roadway
✅ Woody debris must be 6 inches / 15 cm in diameter or smaller
✅ Brush must be clean and free of rocks and dirt
✅ Butt ends should face the road for easy pickup
✅ Brush should be placed curbside or at the end of your driveway the night before pickup

This is a great opportunity to take real action around your home, reduce the fuel that can help wildfire spread, and show what our community can accomplish when we work together to help keep each other safe.

If you are ready to participate, we can start building our list of committed households.
The sooner we reach the minimum number, the sooner we can secure a date and help make our community safer before wildfire season ramps up.
