The Dashwood Volunteer Fire Department was formed in 1984 by a dedicated group of community members who felt a strong passion to have a safer community. Today the Dashwood Volunteer Fire Department has around 40 dedicated volunteers operating out of two strategically placed fire stations, and is under the direction of Fire Chief Nick Acciavatti and Fire Prevention Officer Willow Bloomquist. Our de

Some good advice from our friends at DNVFD

Lithium-ion batteries power many of the devices we use every day. Unfortunately, they can pose a fire risk if damaged or used improperly.

✅ Always follow manufacturer instructions
✅ Use the correct charger for your device
✅ Charge on hard, flat surfaces (not beds or couches)

Stay safe and reduce your risk. Learn more: https://ow.ly/quro50ZbgES

Last nights training.

Our crews worked on honing their skills on hose deployment.

We have 3 standard hose packages that we use on our engines.

✅2- 1.75” 200’ minuteman hose lay each with a 160 gallon per minute 50psi smooth bore nozzle
✅ 2- 2.5” 200” minuteman hose lay each with a 260 gallon per minute 50psi smooth bore nozzle which can be extended with 100’ of 1.75” hose using a hose bundle.
✅ 1- 2.5” 200’ minuteman hose lay with stackable tip ground monitor which is capable of flowing up to 450 gallons per minute at 80psi.
✅ 2-100’ appartment hose bundles each with a 160 gallon per minute 50psi smoothbore nozzle.

Each one of these hose lines are designed to be deployed with 1-2 firefighters in under a minute and each one has a specific use on small to large fires. Our newest engine (E61) is specifically set up to make deploying hoses as efficiently as possible to allow our members to get water on a fire quickly. (See last pic)

Our members streched each one of our hose packages off both our engines as many times as we could squeeze into a 2 hour training session.

In July we will follow this session up with another session on deploying and flowing water through these hoses inside a building.

Well done gang!

‼️Good news!‼️

We were able to secure a wood chipper and we are pleased to announce that we will be doing a one day med to large branch drop off. Please no grass, forest floor debris or things of the like, this for only branches and natural wooded debris that can be chipped.

We will be doing this on Sunday June 14 from 8am to 4pm at Station 62 located at 1800 Galvin Place. We have an area on there pit side of the fire station where you can drop off the branches. We need you to drop them off in a way that will be easy for a crew to load into a chipper. We will have a couple of our members on site to assist show folks where to drop off their debris.

If you have any questions please call us at 250-752-5434 M to F 8-4pm or email us at [email protected]

We hope that you can find this convenient and useful for your FireSmart projects.

A update on our WL61 build.

This weeks progress:
✅LT Guthrie was able to mount the pump and build the plumbing parts, and we are waiting on a few bits and pieces to wrap it up.
✅We reassembled the console and set up the cab with some basics such as our map books, visi vests, command board and related items.
✅One of our members came in an recharged the AC…gotta have AC 😉, thank you!
✅Laid down matting in all the compartments and shelves and test fit some equipment.

Next week our plan is to:
✅ Finish the pump work.
✅ We will test run the pump.
✅ Wire up the portable radios in the cab.
✅ Wire up the shore power.
✅ Load up the equipment and water.
✅ Reweigh the truck, have a CVI done and update the ICBC policy.
✅ Give the truck a good clean and a wax
✅ Get it in service!

Thanks to everyone who has helped us with this project and shout out to our community for supporting us to get these projects off the ground!

We are working to be as cost effective as possible and do what we can ourselves to save us some money.

Looking forward to having this truck ready to serve our community.

This weeks training was about air consumption and physical ability.

We set up a job related course for our members to work through while wearing their SCBA. The course was set out to have our members consume 2 full air cylinders which worked out to be about an hour and half of close to non stop work.

Why did we do this? We felt that these tasks would closely simulate working at a fire scene where we are stretching hose lines, dragging hose, moving a downed person, doing CPR, forcing entry into a building and carrying heavy items etc.

Doing physical tasks that closely relate to our job as firefighters is vital for us to help serve our community.

Well done gang!

‼️‼️Good news we were able to get another FireSmart bin! ‼️‼️

The is located at Station 61 - 230 Hobbs Rd. The gate is open from Monday to Saturday 8-4pm for you to drop off your woody debris from your FireSmart projects (no grass or construction materials) We do ask to try and fill the bin from front to back in order to maximize capacity.

We are still working on the medium to large branch drop off at our Station 62 located at 1800 Galvin Place, stay tuned! (Trying to coordinate a chipper)

We are so happy the bin has been of value to our residents!
