Quesnel Shelter & Support Society The Quesnel Shelter and Support Society was formed by a group of concerned community members who began to meet in November of 2006.

Mission: Creating a place of safety and support for homeless individuals in our community, where they can receive shelter, nourishment, and services which foster independence and success. Their vision was not only to provide a safe environment that would offer warmth and shelter for men, women, youth and families who are at risk of homelessness or who are homeless, but to also provide support and

resources to facilitate personal development and improve their quality of life. The Quesnel Shelter and Support Society was formed and Seasons House opened its doors on May 12, 2008. Since then Seasons House has provided shelter, nourishment and support to hundreds of people. Through the funding support of BC Housing and the Northern Health Authority the Society currently operate a Transitional Housing Program, Emergency Shelter Program and a Support and Recovery Program. The Quesnel Shelter and Support Society is a non-profit society and is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. The Society advocates for and provides minimal-barrier housing and support services to those in the Quesnel region who are destitute or low-income and who are hard-to-house for a variety of reasons, including mental illness, drug use, racism, or abusive family situations. The shelter is based on the principles of harm reduction and minimal barriers. This means that there are minimal obstacles and barriers in the way of accessing our services. Seasons House recognizes that the work involves the most high needs and high risk members of our community and therefore needs to be creative and flexible in order to meet them where they are at so they can receive much needed services.

At Quesnel Shelter & Support Society, we see every day how people with lived and living experience can make a profound difference in the lives of others.

This inspiring story highlights the important role of peer support workers and the hope they bring to people facing addiction, homelessness, and other life challenges. It is a powerful reminder that healing is possible, and that those who have overcome adversity often become some of the strongest supports for others.

Here in Quesnel, peer support services are available through the Northern Peer Connections Outreach Van, an initiative supported through the Quesnel Community Action Team (CAT) Community Action Initiative. Through outreach, connection, advocacy, and practical support, peers help build trust and strengthen pathways to wellness in our community.

We are proud to support and work alongside peers whose lived experience creates understanding, connection, and hope.

Today, the Quesnel Shelter & Support Society Board of Directors is sharing an open letter regarding the City of Quesnel's decision not to extend the Temporary Winter Shelter for the 2026-2027 season. The letter outlines why winter shelter services are critical in our community and the potential impacts this decision may have on people experiencing homelessness.

Between January and April 2026, the Temporary Winter Shelter provided 726 stays for 80 unique individuals, offering a warm and safe place during some of the coldest months of the year.

We recognize that homelessness is a complex issue with no simple solutions. However, we believe every person in our community deserves dignity, safety, and protection from life-threatening weather conditions.

We encourage community members to read the Board's letter, learn more about the issue, and respectfully share their thoughts with Mayor and Council. Community voices matter.

Together, we must continue working toward both immediate and long-term solutions for homelessness in Quesnel.

April 14 marked 10 years since British Columbia declared a public health emergency in response to the toxic drug crisis.

A decade later, this crisis continues to take lives in our community, across the North, and throughout the province.

We are sharing the attached letter from the Quesnel Community Action Team (CAT) to mark this anniversary and to help bring awareness to the ongoing impacts of the unregulated drug supply. It includes current facts, local context, and a call for compassion, education, and meaningful action.

We encourage our community to take a few moments to read the letter, learn more about the realities facing our neighbours, and continue conversations about substance use, harm reduction, and support.

At QSSS, and through our Northern Peer Connections program, we remain committed to overdose prevention, community education, and providing compassionate support to those most impacted.

End stigma. End overdose. End failed policy.
