The Kennebecasis Regional Police Force is advising residents of a recent increase in vehicle thefts reported throughout the community over the past several weeks.

Officers have responded to a growing number of incidents involving stolen vehicles. While investigations remain ongoing, preliminary information indicates that offenders are targeting both locked and unlocked vehicles. In some cases, thieves have also gained access to vehicles by obtaining keys that were left inside or easily accessible.

Police are encouraging vehicle owners to:
• Always lock vehicle doors and close windows.
• Remove keys and key fobs from unattended vehicles.
• Never leave a vehicle running while unattended, even for a short period.
• Park in well-lit areas whenever possible.
• Consider using anti-theft devices such as steering wheel locks, immobilizers, or GPS tracking systems.
• Report any suspicious activity, including individuals checking vehicle doors or loitering in parking lots and residential neighbourhoods.
• Ensure home security systems and cameras are operating.
Residents are also reminded not to leave valuables, identification, or personal documents visible inside their vehicles.

Anyone with information regarding recent vehicle thefts, suspicious activity, or video footage from residential security cameras or dash cameras is encouraged to contact The Kennebecasis Regional Police Force at 506-847-6300.

Anonymous information may also be provided through Crime Stoppers toll-free by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), by submitting a secure web tip at crimenb.ca/tips or by using the P3 Tips app.

We would like to thank the public for their assistance.

This year’s theme, “25 Years Stronger: Looking Back, Moving Forward,” emphasizes the importance of supporting survivors, challenging victim-blaming, and promoting a culture of consent and respect by celebrating the resilience of survivors and the progress of advocacy efforts.

Over the past 75 years, the Kennebecasis Regional Police Force has grown and evolved alongside our community. A milestone in our evolution occurred 43 years ago with the creation of an independent board of police commissioners to oversee police services in the Kennebecasis Valley.

In 1982, residents saw the need for a regional police force to serve the growing population. A committee sought public input to shape the vision for a police service supervised by representatives from six municipalities. As a result, the Rothesay Regional Police Force and the Rothesay Regional Joint Board of Police Commissioners came into being on December 21, 1983.

Following amalgamation in 1998, an agreement between the Towns of Rothesay and Quispamsis created the Board as it exists today. In 2014 the force changed its name to the Kennebecasis Regional Police Force to reflect the region it serves. Today, the Kennebecasis Regional Joint Board of Police Commissioners consists of two volunteer residents and two councillors from each community, an appointee from the Minister of Justice and Public Safety, and the Chief of Police, who is a non-voting member.

The Board works with the Chief of Police and the Towns to develop budgets, set strategic priorities and ensure that policing remains accountable and responsive, while supporting modernization and growth.

This collaborative approach is reflected today in our commitment to community policing: consulting and engaging with residents, working with local partners, and initiating projects to enhance the safety of our community.

Interested in getting involved? Residents can apply through the Town of Quispamsis Applications and Forms | Town of Quispamsis ; or the Town of Rothesay : Forms - Rothesay.

The Kennebecasis Regional Police Force is reminding the public to use caution regarding “Senior Assassin,” a game often played by graduating students involving the use of water guns to “eliminate” assigned targets.

While intended as a game, these activities can create serious public safety concerns and may lead to dangerous misunderstandings. In some cases, water guns are altered or painted to resemble real fi****ms, which can result in an emergency police response. Efforts to avoid being “tagged” have also led to unsafe or unlawful behaviour, including trespassing, dangerous driving, and disturbing the peace.

Students and parents are reminded that laws related to trespassing, dangerous or reckless driving, and public safety will continue to be enforced. Carrying or displaying imitation fi****ms in public may also result in criminal charges, fines, or other legal consequences.

The Kennebecasis Regional Police Force encourages everyone participating in graduation activities to make safe and responsible choices that do not place themselves, other motorists, or the public at risk.

Anyone who witnesses suspicious activity or behaviour that raises concern is asked to contact the Kennebecasis Regional Police Force or call 911 in an emergency.
