A huge shoutout today Red Bay to the OCAC Air Stream Caravan out of London, Ontario, who recently visited, and made Red Bay their “home base” as they explored our beautiful region to the North and South. We have received feedback from the group that they absolutely loved their time in Red Bay and are already making plans for return trips this year, and into the future as well. The group were extremely generous with donations to our Basqador Committee to help with “Basquador Days 2026” and we would like to extend a “GREAT BIG THANK YOU” to our new friends and say that we can’t wait to welcome you again to our beautiful historic home !!! “YOU GUYS RAWK !!! See you next time !!! 😊😊😊

NEW WILDFIRE RULES & TOUGHER PENALTIES NOW IN EFFECT
(June 10)

The Provincial Government has launched a new wildfire information website and introduced strengthened legislation aimed at reducing the risk of forest fires across Newfoundland and Labrador.

Some of the key changes include:

• Fireworks and sky lanterns are now prohibited when the Fire Weather Index is High, Very High, or Extreme.

• Deliberately starting a forest fire now carries penalties ranging from $100,000 to $500,000.

• A new offence for recklessly or negligently starting a forest fire carries penalties of $50,000 to $150,000.

• Minimum fines of $50,000 now apply for several high-risk activities, including burning without a permit, violating fire bans, leaving fires unattended, and using fireworks during high-risk conditions.

• ATVs and other motorized vehicles travelling on forest land must have proper spark arrestors and fire extinguishers.

The new Wildfire Prevention and Management website provides daily wildfire risk levels, active wildfire information, statistics, prevention tips, and details on the updated legislation.

With wildfire activity increasing in recent years, do you think these tougher penalties will help prevent human-caused fires?

Hey Red Bay … Happy Friday! 🙂. Gorgeous one out there today! I have just heard from our Tracy Hill crew who are doing awesome work for us through the Southern Labrador Development Association. If initial work on this awesome project is any indication, we are in for a beautiful piece of work going up that hill when all is said and done a couple of years from now! 😊

As was the case last season, there is, and will be, a lot of old boardwalk being brought to the parking lot at Tracy Hill. Again, as was the case last year, residents are invited to take this timber for firewood or other use. We ask that you please use caution as sharp edges or items such as broken boards may be present.

THANK YOU again to the crew and we wish you a productive and safe summer and fall. 👍🙂
