Today, June 21st, is National Indigenous Peoples Day in Canada. For many generations, Indigenous peoples and groups have been celebrating their heritage on June 21st or around this time of year because of the significance of the summer solstice as the longest day of the year. Today, and everyday, is a time for reconciliation and reflection for the contributions that Indigenous peoples have had, and continue to have in Canada.

June is National Indigenous History Month in Canada, a time to learn and educate oneself further on the unique histories and stories of the Indigenous peoples of Canada. It is also a time to celebrate and honor the accomplishments and resilience of the various Indigenous communities across Canada.

April 27- May 3 is National Volunteer Week in Alberta. We would like to give a HUGE shoutout to our dedicated volunteers here at Red Deer Victim Services! We would not be able to provide the services and supports that we do without our volunteers. We currently have a total of 14 compassionate women and men of the community who dedicate countless hours to support victims of crime. A big thank you for all that you do!

Today, February 26th is Pink Shirt Day in Canada. Pink Shirt Day began in 2007 when a student in Nova Scotia was bullied for wearing a pink shirt. It has since been recognized worldwide as a day to stand against bullying. Pink Shirt Day encourages everyone to be inclusive, kind, and supportive of one another.
