Come and see what we built!!! For two years you've watched this site evolve. Now you get to peek behind the green doors and check out our new preschool building. Join us this Thursday, September 3, from 5:00pm - 7:00pm. Get a look inside our new preschool facility, meet the staff, and chat about what it means to educate kids in the outdoors.

For nearly 40 years the Kerry Wood Nature Centre has been operating a nature-based preschool. As Red Deer has expanded, as outdoor-based preschool has become more popular, and as our school programs. have seen increased demand, we were getting squeezed for space.

Funded by a private donation, this new facility gives our preschool kids and staff, a home of their own. We hope you are as excited as we are for this new chapter in innovative, nature-based education.

August has already been full of astronomical treats, from a solar eclipse to the Perseids, but the show's not over yet! A partial lunar eclipse will be visible across Canada on the evening of Thursday, August 27.

Although the Moon won't quite fully enter the Earth's shadow (thus becoming a total lunar eclipse), it should still be an impressive sight... As long as those pesky clouds stay away.

To view the eclipse from Red Deer, simply look to the southeast between 8:33 p.m. and 11:51 p.m. The eclipse will be at its maximum at 10:12 p.m.

School is just around the corner, which means after-school activities are too! Wild in the Woods is an active, outdoor, nature-based after-school program for youth. We have two groups based on age: Wild in the Woods JR & Wild in the Woods SR.

Wild in the Woods is a program for kids to get outside, explore, learn some new skills, and spend time getting to know the wild spaces around them. If your kid loves being outside (or you’d like them to spend a little more time there!), Wild in the Woods might be a great fit!🌲🔥🪢

Make the most of the final days of summer vacation with a guided family nature adventure in the Gaetz Lakes Sanctuary. On Saturday, August 29, drop by the Kerry Wood Nature Centre at 11 a.m. to join our Interpreter for this 1 hour adventure.

All ages welcome.
$3/person or $10/family.

🅿Parking at the Kerry Wood Nature Centre will be limited this weekend while crews complete work in the area. Our overflow parking area will be available for visitors! Since we’re centrally located, there are plenty of ways to get here such as hopping on your bike, or enjoying a walk from nearby areas, including the beautiful McKenzie Trails. Whether you park on site, use the overflow lot, bike, or walk, we hope to see you this weekend! 🚲🥾

Our Preschool Teachers are excited to move into their new space and welcome all this year's students! All families with preschool-aged kids are welcome to attend our Preschool Open House to meet our staff, explore the program, and see the new preschool building.

• Preschool Open House: August 26 from 10 a.m. to noon
• Preschool Registration Closes: August 31 at 3 p.m. (Many classes are FREE and filling up fast!)
• Preschool Fall Term Classes: September 1 to December 18, 2026
