International Women's Day was introduced in 1913 as a time to recognize and celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women and girls. Today it is an opportunity to reflect on how far women have come, not just in the work force, but as women in general, and yet how much there is to overcome.
Challenges of that time were systemic inequality, voting rights, economic independence and personal safety and yes, some of those things still sound familiar. Thanks to Hon Adriana LaGrange and to Mayor Cindy Jefferies (whom I apologise, I didn't get a picture) for joining other women from the community to share their experiences and also their courage in the world of politics.
