Alberta is updating disability supports starting July 2026. A new program called ADAP will work alongside AISH.

WE NEED YOUR HELP — DONATIONS NEEDED FOR AGP GARAGE SALE FUNDRAISER
We're getting ready to host a Fundraiser Garage Sale to help keep the doors open at A Gathering Place (AGP) — a mental health clubhouse for adults that offers community, support, and connection.

To make it happen, we’re collecting donations of gently used items — and we need your help!

If it's clean and in good condition, we’d love to include it.

STEPS Society of Red Deer has proudly operated A Gathering Place (AGP) in Red Deer since 2011. AGP was initially funded by Alberta Health Services and as of 2024, with the changes to AHS, the funding moved over to Recovery Alberta. Recently, we (and other programs under Recovery Alberta) were notified that funding would end. For AGP, the rationale was that the mandate of Recovery Alberta was to focus on supports that directly address crisis services such as in-patient bed services.

AGP is a clubhouse that provides necessary assistance to adults (members) experiencing mental wellness barriers. The preventative supports provided have been vital to the 91 members that have needed them to support their stability, health and wellbeing in a time sensitive manner as well as on an ongoing basis. We would like to raise awareness of the integral role that AGP plays in the spectrum of mental health needs within our community and how the transitional supports provided have assisted members when leaving a facility (hospital) and the regular preventative supports have reduced the need for more acute care within our community.

Please join us for our Open House to learn more about the supports the clubhouse offers, the impact the closure will have on our Members, and brainstorm new ideas!

We invite you to our monthly member meeting Friday February 21st at 12:30pm to discuss recent news about the possible closure of AGP. This program is a vital space for so many, and we want to ensure that your voices are heard.

We strongly encourage attendance to share thoughts about the recent news. If you feel compelled, we invite you to submit a written testimony about what AGP means to you, how it has impacted your life, and how its closure would affect you.
For those who would like to or prefer to share their story through video, our staff will be available during the meeting to help record video testimonies. These testimonies are needed as soon as possible!

This is an opportunity to advocate for yourselves and for this community. Your experiences matter, and together, we can ensure that the impact AGP has for our community is seen and heard.
