Red Deer Food Bank

Red Deer Food Bank The Food Bank provides emergency food assistance for people in Red Deer and immediate area. This is a problem we can address.

Our Purpose
We are the first line of support when people are facing food insecurity. Our Rallying Cry
In the face of many unsolvable global issues, it’s easy to feel apathetic and unsure how to make a positive impact. But the truth is, the best way to make change is to start here and now. In our community, there is an abundance of food, yet people still go hungry. We have the supply, the knowledge

, and the connections to feed those in crisis. All we need is people to step up and join in. Let’s work together so no one goes hungry. Our Vision:
Accessible food for all. Our Mission:
To relieve hunger today, prevent hunger tomorrow. Our Values:

*Collaboration
We engage our community in working towards lasting social change, where all are supported to seek help and assist each other.

*Equity
We recognize the inherent worth and dignity of every person and treat all with respect and compassion.

*Food Security
We believe access to healthy food and proper nutrition is a fundamental human right.

*Innovation
We continuously pursue new and refined solutions to serve the needs of our community.

Food security is about more than food. It’s about dignity, sustainability, responsible stewardship and finding thoughtful ways to respond to the changing needs of our community.

The Red Deer Food Bank is looking for new volunteer Board members — people who want to use their skills and experience to help guide an organization that plays an important role in our community.

We’re particularly interested in people with experience in:
• Finance or accounting
• Business and strategic planning
• Governance
• Human resources
• Entrepreneurship, innovation or change management

You don’t need previous Board experience. We’re looking for people who are willing to ask good questions, think strategically, contribute their expertise and work collaboratively.

And, just to be clear… if you believe a food bank should simply hand out KD and canned goods, this probably isn’t the Board position for you. If you believe we can serve people well, protect their dignity and make thoughtful, responsible decisions about the future, we’d like to hear from you.

We’re hoping to welcome new Board members at our October AGM and are inviting interested individuals to put their names forward.

What’s the commitment?

• One Board meeting each month
• Occasional attendance at Food Bank fundraisers and events
• Committee involvement, depending on your interests and experience
• Approximately 8–10 hours per month.

If this sounds like something you would like to contribute to, we’d be happy to hear from you. Reach out with your expression of interest to [email protected]

For many families, seniors and individuals in Central Alberta, the cost of everyday essentials is rising faster than their income. After paying for housing, utilities, transportation and medication, there may not be enough left for groceries.

Last year, more than 30,500 people received support from the Red Deer Food Bank—and 40% were children.

During Hunger Action Month, help us make sure no one in our community has to face hunger alone.

You can take action by:

💙 Donating food or funds www.reddeerfoodbank.com/donate
💙 Volunteering https://www.reddeerfoodbank.com/volunteering
💙 Organizing a food drive or fundraiser https://www.reddeerfoodbank.com/give
💙 Sharing this post to help raise awareness

Every action matters.

Cucumbers are 90 - 95% water but they are still nutritious. They provide fibre and other important nutrients like vitamin K, vitamin C, and potassium. Once our cucumbers are ready for harvest, they will be a great addition in the pantry for our clients. It won't be long now... our cucumber vines are starting to climb!
