e process. In the Redwater District we respond with 2 engines, 1 water tender, 1 Rescue, 1 Wildland rapid response with a Wildland trailer, and the dedication and hard work of its responders. All you need to join is to be over 18 year of age, a clean criminal record check, valid drivers license and in good physical condition. No fitness test is required to join, but the job does entail some strenuous physical activity at times during some emergencies. For the youngsters that want to gain work experience credits, joining the RFD can help you out. All you need is to be 16 yrs of age, valid drivers licence preferred, but not required and good attitude, and parents/guardians approval. There are some restrictions when responding to emergencies.
16 yrs- respond only from 0600-1800 with direct adult supervision
17 yrs- respond 24 hours of the day with direct adult supervision
18 yrs- respond 24 hours of the day with no adult supervision required
All firefighters that join, young or old are required to go through a 3 month probation period, where in this time we teach you the basics required for you to safely respond to calls and have a basic understanding of whats required.
