Our final volunteer highlight for National Volunteer Week 2026 is Shelly Howe. Shelly is the Recreation Services Supervisor for the City of Moose Jaw where part of her job involves overseeing the City’s two aquatic facilities, its aquatic staff, and staff training. When she’s not doing her actual paid job, Shelly finds time to volunteer for the Branch in many capacities. She is a Bronze and National Lifeguard mentor and Examiner, she is one of the lead Critical Incident Stress Peer Counsellors for the Branch, and has presented at several of our Provincial Aquatic Conferences. In the last two years, Shelly became one of the Branch’s National Trainers. This role involves leading the Trainer clinics in the province, and teaching new and upcoming Trainers. She has been an amazing resource for the Branch and we honestly couldn’t get along without her! Thanks, Shelly!

Sue Sadler from Rocanville is Friday’s volunteer highlight for National Volunteer Week 2026. This bundle of energy has been mentoring new Bronze Instructors and delivering NLS recertifications for several years in the Rocanville/Moosomin/Whitewood area. Sue is an excellent aquatic leader and a great resource for all things water safety and drowning prevention. And did we mention she has a great eggbeater kick and an amazing smile and laugh? If you've ever been taught, mentored, or examined by Sue, you probably already know that!
You can find Sue helping out at the Universe Satellite Aquatic Centre or working for the Town of Rocanville.

It’s National Volunteer Week across Canada and we’re celebrating our Lifesaving Society volunteers here in Saskatchewan! Today, we’re highlighting Graham Erickson and Barb Spearey from Yorkton.
Both Graham and Barb work at the Access Communications Waterpark where Graham is the Waterpark Supervisor and Barb is the Head Lifeguard.
When Graham is not busy managing the Waterpark, Graham is a busy volunteer for the Society. He is a member of the National Safety Standards Commission which meets monthly and requires a lot of research and commitment. He also has assisted in performing aquatic facility audits for the Branch and doing guest speaking at our virtual Affiliate meetings.
Barb is just beginning her volunteer career with the Society. Last year, she provided public education activities at Good Spirit Provincial Park for the Branch, along with Graham. Barb is also starting to mentor some of our new Bronze Instructors.
The Lifesaving Society is very lucky and grateful to have these two enthusiastic individuals as part of our team! Thanks Graham and Barb!

Lauren Haubrich and Courtney Domoney are today's (Wednesday) highlighted volunteers for National Volunteer Week 2026.

These two peas in a pod have been volunteering at a high level for the Branch ever since they met in 2016. Lauren, from Prince Albert, and Courtney, from Regina have always found time to do some pretty amazing things for the Branch. They are both National Trainers for the Society and have dedicated much of their time toward the growth of our leaders in the province. They also co-chaired the Branch’s Drop Drowning youth event for two years in a row. In 2024, Lauren was the event lead for the Aquatic Provincial Conference and the Lifesaving Affiliate Gathering in Prince Albert. With all that going on, she also managed to plan a steak night fundraiser for the Branch and was a session speaker as well. Lauren has also volunteered her time teaching Aquatic Supervisor Training and Aquatic Management Training for the Branch. Courtney has initiated several fundraisers for the Branch including a Paint Night and a Grand in Hand event.
We could go on and on about these two but we’re only allowed so many words for our post! Thanks so much Lauren and Courtney!

Crystal Sipko and Mack Klyne are today’s highlighted volunteers for National Volunteer Week 2026! Crystal and Mack are two of the fabulous aquatic leaders employed by the City of Regina. When not working, they are always willing to volunteer for the Lifesaving Society. A great example of this is the mentoring provided by each of them for new Bronze instructors and National Lifeguard instructors. This year, Crystal volunteered her time to assist in delivering the National Lifeguard Instructor course in Regina. In 2025, Crystal and Mack were co-Chairs for the Branch’s annual Provincial Aquatic Conference. Mack also stepped up to be the day’s master of ceremonies and was also key in ensuring the Affiliate meeting the day before ran smoothly. Crystal provided her expertise as a speaker for one of the conference sessions and helped to develop a fantastic session on Narcan. In March, Crystal and Mack both volunteered to work at our exhibitor booth for the Regina Home and Garden Show. We're always happy to work with either one of these two fantastic volunteers!

We’re highlighting Michael Brenholen today for National Volunteer Week 2026! Michael’s volunteerism with the Society spans over 40 years. He’s done it all. From teaching, examining, and mentoring over 2000 candidates in lifesaving, lifeguarding, and instruction, to presenting at our annual conference, judging at lifeguard competitions, and helping to teach our Occupational Aquatic Safety Training program. An avid paddler, Michael is the Society’s expert when it comes to all things canoing or kayaking. To honour Michael’s exemplary volunteerism, Michael has received both the Royal Life Saving Society’s Commonwealth Life Member and Life Governor awards. Michael is newly retired from St. John Ambulance where he held the position of Operations Manager for almost 20 years. Prior to that, Michael was the Aquatic Manager for the Agriplex Pool and then the Gallagher Waterpark in Yorkton. Michael is still actively involved with the Society and we’ve already got plans for him for this summer! Thanks, Michael!

Our first volunteers to be highlighted for National Volunteer Week 2026 are Jessica Yaworski and Shannon Marshall. They are the leading ladies of the Northern Lights Palace Pool in Melfort! Shannon is the Recreation/Aquatic Manager for the City of Melfort and Jessica is the Aquatic Pool Supervisor. Together, they make a great team!
When they’re not running the Palace, both Shannon and Jessica have found the time to provide volunteer services for the Lifesaving Society. Shannon has facilitated two in-person round-tables at our Affiliate meetings as well as assisted in recruiting presenters and volunteers for our Branch events. Jessica has been a presenter at our Provincial Aquatic Conference and has delivered inservice training at surrounding pools on behalf of the Lifesaving Society. They are both great ambassadors for the Lifesaving Society and great resources for the swimming pools in the Northeast region of the province.
