Did you know that you could be the difference when it comes to locating a missing child?

Earlier this month, when a young boy went missing, officers sought video surveillance from the surrounding area in an effort to locate him. Footage obtained by investigators helped determine the boy’s direction of travel. That footage was primarily collected by officers knocking on doors.

In policing, time is often of the essence. Quickly identifying nearby cameras and viewing video evidence can make a significant difference in moving an investigation forward/locating a vulnerable person.

Would you like to assist police in these types of situations? The Safe Neighbourhood Camera Registry allows citizens and businesses to voluntarily register their security cameras. When an incident occurs, officers can quickly search the registry and contact those on it to request footage that could save a life.

Today we advanced two significant items that reflect our commitment to better governance and a stronger, more vibrant future for Regina.

First, through the strengthened Internal Auditor’s office — advanced by my motion last year — we are establishing quarterly reporting. This delivers on promises of stronger oversight and is projected to deliver millions in long-term savings for taxpayers, well beyond our time in these seats.

Second, the Brandt-REAL partnership. After extensive review, public input, and answered questions, this agreement brings private investment and experienced management to our oldest REAL District buildings. Most importantly, it transfers the substantial infrastructure deficit risk away from taxpayers while delivering major recreational upgrades that will directly improve the lives of Regina residents and visitors.

We will see more sports and recreational opportunities, more entertainment and concerts, more rodeos and farm shows, and greatly enhanced food and beverage options.

REAL will become a true year-round destination. A lively hub that brings families together, supports local talent, attracts visitors, and creates lasting memories for our community.

None of this would have been possible without the dedicated work of the REAL District board led by Chair Jaime Boldt, CEO Trent Fraser, the executive team, and management. As one of the councillors appointed as a non-voting member to the REAL board in 2025, I especially want to honour my friends and colleagues there. The many hours we spent together through TSIKLIS LISTENS coffee talks, events, and honest conversations helped shape the decisions that made the campus attractive enough for Brandt Sports & Entertainment to step forward with a deal that will define a generation.

Our city’s history is not one of perfection, but it is still better than most, and it is fundamentally a story of perpetual improvement. These decisions today embody that spirit: pragmatic steps forward, made possible by the dedication of my fellow councillors, the Mayor, city administration, engaged residents, and the REAL leadership team.

I’m proud of the work we’ve done together, and I look forward to continuing to build a Regina that works for everyone.
