Two weeks ago Council said no to ranking services.
Today they agreed to price a real conversation with you: Project Listen First. That cost comes back this fall. December is when they decide whether to fund it.
Here is why you should care even if you never go to City Hall.
It already costs about $45 million more next year just to keep what you have. That is a 7% mill rate before any extras. Council is aiming for 5.8%, which only works if they cut. On an average home that is a few hundred dollars a year, not a rounding error.
Today they looked at another $9 million in add-ons. Capital, utilities, and partner asks are still coming. Police is already in the forecast. EDR and the Provincial Capital Commission will be back for millions more.
If you stay quiet, those choices get made without you. You can pay more next year and still get less, unless Council is forced to choose out loud.
My residents are stretched. They tell me we cannot fund everything. We can be honest about what we fund by asking.
If you want Council to hear you before December:
1. Email your councillor and the whole Council. One paragraph is enough: “fund Project Listen First in the 2027 budget.”
2. Show up at TSIKLIS LISTENS, first Saturday of the month, McDonald’s Gordon Road, 10am to 1pm. Oct 3 and Nov 7 are up next.
3. When the work plan and cost come back this fall, register to speak. The Clerk’s deadline is noon the Monday before the meeting, at Regina.ca/register.
