We're thrillied to annouce our next keynote speaker for the 2026 SFL convention!

Jessica McCormick is the President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Labour, Jessica has worked in labour, student and social justice movements since 2010. Prior to her role with the Federation, Jessica was a Public Relations, Communications and Research Officer with the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees. She has also worked as Director of Public Affairs with the Fish, Food and Allied Workers Union and has served as National Chairperson of the Canadian Federation of Students, representing more than 600,000 college and university students.

Here's our next keynote speaker reveal for the 2026 SFL Convention:

Jason MacLean is the Secretary-Treasurer for the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE), representing 450,000 workers across Canada.

Born and raised in the working-class community of Whitney Pier in Nova Scotia, he's also led the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union as President.

As a labour leader, Jason has earned respect for his consistent commitment to social justice, equity, and solidarity, and for the clarity, dynamism, and unifying approach he brings to movement building across the National Union and in the broader progressive movement in Canada and internationally.

Parliament passed anti-scab law to protect workers’ right to strike and ensure collective bargaining is fair. When employers use scab labour, they undermine that fundamental right.

The Bank of Canada should immediately stop using scab labour, comply with the Canada Industrial Relations Board’s orders, and return to the bargaining table.

Workers need to know that Canada’s labour laws apply equally to everyone, including the country’s public institutions. Respect for the law begins with following it.
