We’re ending the week on a sweet note – National Donut Day!
First let’s look back at the origin of this day. It was established to honour volunteers in the Salvation Army who served fresh donuts to troops on the front lines during the First World War. It was a way to share some comfort and a little taste of home with the soldiers. The Salvation Army in Canada still commemorates this day, which is the first Friday in June, by distributing donuts in various communities.
Today, the Division Mess carried on that spirit by serving donuts for dessert. Not only was it a tasty treat to enjoy, but it is also sparked conversations and acted as a reminder that community is built one interaction at a time. The simple act of connecting with someone can have a lasting impact in the communities we serve.
