Today we’re recognizing Abdirisak and celebrating 15 years of dedication and impact at RODS.

Abdirisak joined the Settlement, Family and Community Department 15 years ago and currently serves as a Resettlement Assistance Program Caseworker. Having arrived in Regina as a newcomer refugee himself, he quickly stood out for his skills, professionalism, and commitment to helping others. It became clear early on that he would be a strong addition to the team.

Abdirisak brings hard work, adaptability, and compassion to everything he does. He uses his lived experience in meaningful ways to support clients as they work toward their goals, and his thoughtful approach continues to make a positive impact on both clients and colleagues alike.

Thank you, Abdirisak, for your dedication, initiative, and commitment to quality service over the past 15 years.

Today we’re celebrating Farjana and her 15 years of outstanding service at RODS.

Farjana began her journey at RODS in 2010 as a work placement volunteer in the daycare through the RODS Employment program. It did not take long to see the passion and dedication she brought to her work, and she was soon hired as a casual staff member before moving into part-time and full-time roles.

Farjana is an experienced and adaptable educator who can work seamlessly with any age group. She is now a lead teacher in the daycare, where she demonstrates strong collaboration skills and is always willing to share her knowledge and support her colleagues.

Thank you, Farjana, for your dedication to children and families, and for the positive impact you have made in the child care centre. Congratulations on this remarkable milestone.

Happy Pride!

Pride began as a protest. In 1969, LGBTQI+ communities stood up against police raids and discrimination at the Stonewall Inn in New York City, sparking a global movement for rights, safety, and equality.

While Pride today is also a celebration of identity, community, and joy, it’s important to remember that the fight for equality is ongoing. Around the world, many LGBTQI+ people still face discrimination, violence, and persecution simply for being themselves. For some newcomers and refugees, seeking safety also means seeking the freedom to live openly and authentically.

At Regina Open Door Society, we believe a welcoming community is one where everyone feels respected, supported, and safe to be who they are.

We’re proud to celebrate Pride Season and stand alongside our community in support of inclusion, dignity, and equality for all.

You’ll also find us at the Pride Parade this year, and we’d love to see you there if you’d like to join us! 🌈
