The winter months are the perfect time to perform various tasks around your home and increase your wildfire resilience!

Looking for a good place to start? Begin with your Immediate Zone, a non-combustible area that starts at the home and extends to a 1.5 metre perimeter around it. Here, you can:

✔️Assess your roof and gutters, clearing any flammable debris.
✔️Install non-combustible screens on vents and eaves.
✔️Ensure all exterior doors are fire-rated and have a good seal.
✔️Clean under your deck and remove all flammable items.
✔️Clear all flammable debris within 1.5 metres of your home.

Council has approved the creation of a Community FireSmart and Resiliency Committee for the City of Revelstoke. The City will be looking for 6 members of the public to be a part of the committee. If you are passionate about wildfire prevention and resilience within our community, this may be the committee for you. We’re excited to announce that the Home Partners Program is transitioning from FireSmart Canada to FireSmart BC on October 23rd to meet the growing demand across the province. With this shift, the program will be rebranded as the FireSmart BC Wildfire Mitigation Program.

A brand-new assessment platform, developed in partnership with the Fire Chiefs’ Association of BC (FCABC), is coming soon to streamline the process for both homeowners and Wildfire Mitigation Specialists.

Homeowners can continue requesting assessments to identify vulnerabilities and hazards while remaining eligible for rebates and insurance incentives. Stay tuned for more information!
