In Mount Revelstoke, Glacier and Rogers Pass, nature and culture have evolved together. These iconic places offer Canadians and international visitors a chance to connect with the wonder of the Columbia Mountains environment and to discover the evolving relationship of people with the land. The parks protect a

nd preserve the globally important wilderness and biodiversity that define the essential character of this natural environment. Wildlife, including grizzly bears, wolverines and mountain caribou co-exist with the people who visit and live in this area. A portion of the world’s only inland temperate cedar/hemlock rainforest is protected within the parks.

Starting as early as Tuesday, September 01, Parks Canada will begin annual fall wildfire risk reduction projects.

Work is planned for the area of the park below the highway interchange and will include tree removal, vegetation thinning, and pile burning if conditions allow.
Smoke may be visible from the Trans-Canada Highway and from the City of Revelstoke.

The project area includes a network of unofficial trails and associated wood features, including small bridges. Some of these trails and features will be affected by the work and may be closed or removed as necessary for safety and to allow the wildfire risk reduction work to proceed.

Wildfire risk reduction is an important part of Parks Canada’s fire management program. The work is intended to reduce the amount of forest fuel available to a wildfire and help slow the spread of fire.

If weather permits, this work will continue through the month of October.

Planning to visit Mount Revelstoke and Glacier National Parks on September 8 or later? Here’s what you need to know:

✅ Visitors who purchased their Discovery Passes before the Canada Strong Pass period will automatically receive a three-month extension on their pass.

Following lightning activity over the weekend, seven new wildfires were detected in Mount Revelstoke National Park.

Parks Canada is managing new starts through helicopter bucketing, and where possible deploying crews to action the fires from the ground. Four of the new starts have been extinguished.

These wildfires currently pose no threat to public safety or infrastructure.

Wildfires, smoke, and fire suppression activities may be visible from roadways and visitor use areas.

Today, on International Dog Day, we celebrate the best friends who get us outside, remind us to live in the moment and inspire us to care for our surroundings.

When visiting the Parks with dogs, remember to:
🐾 Keep them on a leash and under control at all times.
🐻 Give wildlife plenty of space.
💩 Pick up waste and dispose of it in a garbage bin.
📍 Take your dog only where dogs are allowed. Many areas of the parks do not allow dogs.

A Highway Runs Through It 🚗🏔️

The Trans-Canda Highway winds through Mount Revelstoke and Glacier national parks, connecting communities, people and supplies across the country. It hosts a constant flow of people and wildlife through a rugged mountain landscape – giving it so much life.

We all have a role to play in keeping the highway safe.
When travelling:
🌧️ Slow down. Rain, fog, heavy traffic, and changing mountain conditions call for extra caution.
📵 Stay focused. Keep your attention on the road.
🧘 Keep your cool. Tailgating and aggressive driving put everyone at risk.
🐻 Watch for wildlife. Animals can appear on the highway with little warning.
🚫 Stop only in official pull-outs. Never stop on the highway or shoulder to take photos or watch wildlife.
Before you hit the road:
🌐 Check DriveBC for current highway conditions, delays, and incidents.
⏰ Plan for extra time. Unplanned delays can happen, especially during busy periods.
🛻 Pack extra food and water and bring extra patience.
At the end of the day, we are all just trying to get home. Let’s look out for each other along the way.

🔥Wildfire Management Update – August 21, 2026
📍Mount Revelstoke National Park

On August 20, Parks Canada used planned ignition to manage the Mt. Klotz wildfire. The intent was to burn off forest fuels along the wildfire’s perimeter to contain it within natural boundaries. The operation was successful. This fire is not currently posing a threat to public safety and infrastructure. The safety of the public, our crews, infrastructure and neighboring lands is Parks Canada's top priority

There are no impacts to roads or visitor areas as a result of this fire.

Parks Canada continues to monitor the fire and active fire management operations may be visible including:
• Fire crews and equipment
• Helicopters and bucketing as required
• Smoke

🔥Wildfire Management Update – August 20, 2026
📍Mount Revelstoke National Park

Starting as early as August 20, Parks Canada will use planned ignition to manage the Mount Klotz wildfire in Mount Revelstoke National Park. This fire is not currently posing a threat to public safety and infrastructure. The intent of this work is to proactively remove forest fuels between the fire and natural boundaries. The safety of the public, our crews, infrastructure, and neighboring lands is Parks Canada’s top priority.

Smoke and flames will be visible from the Trans-Canada highway.

The Mount Klotz lightning-caused fire was discovered on July 27. It is located below Mount Klotz in the Woolsey drainage in Mount Revelstoke National Park. It is currently estimated to be less than 1 hectare in size.

There are no impacts to roads or visitor areas as a result of this fire.

🐻You know to give bears space if you see them. But how much space is enough?

100 m (330 feet) or more is the correct distance.

🤚If the bear is looking towards you or otherwise reacting to your presence: You’re too close.

If you’re in a car when you see a bear, stay in your vehicle and keep moving, do not impede traffic. Doing so helps to prevent bears from becoming habituated to humans.

Meet the alpine's cutest resident: the Pika! 🏔️🐾

A tiny relative of rabbits and hares, the pika is famous for its adorable summer habit of gathering bouquets of grasses and alpine wildflowers. 🌼

They leave them to dry on sunny rocks before storing them as "haypiles" beneath rocky talus slopes to snack on all winter—because unlike many alpine animals, pikas don't hibernate!

Hiking through alpine terrain? Listen for their distinctive little "eep!" before you spot one. It's how they warn each other about predators and stay in touch.

Keep an eye out for a tiny 15 cm bundle of greyish-brown fur with round ears and no visible tail. And if you see haypile of vegetation and flowers drying in the sun, be sure to leave it alone—these are pika treats! 🍿

As cute as they are, admire them from a distance and remember: never feed wild animals—big or small. 💚
