Richmond Hill Bank Robbery Suspect Caught and Charged by York Regional Police.
They have identified the accused as 43-year-old Almir Mujovic, of no fixed address. He has been charged with five counts of robbery with a firearm, two counts of disguise with intent and one count of failing to comply with a judicial release order.
According to investigators, Mujovic was on a judicial release order for an unrelated matter at the time of the January 2026 incident.
The suspect has been charged in connection with five bank robberies, including four unsolved incidents from 2012 linked to the “Southbound Bandit,” according to the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit.
The investigation stems from the bank robbery reported on January 15, 2026, at approximately 2:20 p.m. near Yonge Street and Elgin Mills Road in Richmond Hill. Police allege a man entered the bank armed with a firearm, threatened staff and fled with a quantity of cash.
Following an extensive investigation, officers identified a suspect and recovered DNA evidence that allegedly linked him to four additional bank robberies committed in February 2012 by the individual known as the “Southbound Bandit.”
Investigators say the suspect was seen near the robbery scene without a mask and believe additional witnesses may still have information that could assist the case.
