y the people representing you. I think it is incredible when a bargaining unit is tightly knit and speaks with one voice to management. With this cohesion, there is no limit to the amount of success that can be achieved. I believe that each and every member has a duty to serve the local in some capacity. Attend meetings, support the chairs and stewards, exercise the right to vote, and stand up for your brothers and sisters. Always remember that management did not just offer up all the conditions in your collective agreement because you are “nice people.” Most employers try to bargain away your rights to pensions, benefits, full-time positions, salary, overtime and holidays. That is why the most important role of a union member is being able to set aside differences with individuals to maintain a collective front to the employer.
