It’s time to save seeds at the Urban Bounty Seed Demonstration Garden!
Here is an update on what seeds are ready to be saved, and what plants need a bit more time.
We planted only self-pollinating varieties this year, such as tomatoes, lettuce, peas, beans, dill and chickpeas, and there’s a good reason why. In a community garden, dozens of different plant varieties are growing side by side, which makes cross-pollination a real risk for seed savers. Luckily self-pollinating plants produce seeds that are true to type, year after year.
