On Oct. 19, we remember Paramedic Ivan Polivka and Paramedic Unit Chief Jo-Ann Fuller, who died in the line of duty in 2010 when their ambulance entered Kennedy Lake while returning to Tofino.

We honour their service and remember all B.C. paramedics who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Our thoughts are with their families, friends, colleagues and the communities they served.

Always remembered.

Happy Thanksgiving from APBC!

To the paramedics and dispatchers working this holiday, thank you for being there for our communities. We know that being on shift can mean missing time with the people you love.

Wishing all our members and their families a safe and restful Thanksgiving.

October 10 is World Mental Health Day.

Paramedics and dispatchers carry the weight of difficult calls, shift work and experiences that can stay with them long after a shift ends. Supporting their mental health takes ongoing care, understanding and access to help.

You don’t have to carry it alone.

October 6 marks the National Day of Action on Planetary Health.

Climate change is a health crisis. Climate-related emergencies are harming the communities we serve and making work for paramedics more dangerous.

APBC plans to bring together paramedics and experts across Canada to develop planetary health learning opportunities and connect with paramedic schools about including this content in their programs.

Reducing emissions and building climate resilience can protect patients, paramedics and our health-care system.

On Sept. 30th, we recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We honour residential school Survivors, the children who never came home, and the families and communities who continue to carry the impacts.

The recent events in Kamloops are a painful reminder of how far we still have to go. We stand with Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc and our Indigenous members, colleagues, patients and communities.

As paramedics and dispatchers, we have a responsibility to help our patients feel safe, respected and heard. Reconciliation means listening, learning and challenging racism in our workplaces and communities, every day.
