Residents may notice several large Canadian flags appearing on front lawns across Moose Jaw and surrounding communities this spring and summer as part of the returning “Fly the Flag with Rotary” fundraiser organized by the Rotary Club of Moose Jaw Wakamow.
The program invites residents and businesses to display a Canadian flag on their property during three major summer long weekends — Victoria Day, Canada Day, and Labour Day — while supporting local and international initiatives through a single $60 subscription. Rotary volunteers take care of both setup and removal, installing a three-by-five-foot Canadian flag on a 10-foot pole at homes and businesses for several days around each holiday period.
The initiative has continued to grow since its launch in 2024, now extending beyond Moose Jaw to include nearby resort villages and communities such as North Grove, South Lake, Sun Valley, Parkview, Elbow, and Palliser Regional Park.
With the first flag installations set for the weekend of May 2, organizers are encouraging residents to sign up well ahead of the May long weekend to ensure inclusion in all three holiday displays.
Subscriptions can be completed online through the club’s website, with participants able to purchase multiple flags for different locations or as gifts. Rotary members note that homeowners do not need to be present during installation or removal, as volunteers manage the full process. Subscribers are also asked to indicate if they have underground sprinklers or other potential obstacles when signing up.
Alongside the flag fundraiser, the Rotary Club of Moose Jaw Wakamow has several additional events planned this year, including a Rotary Shred Day on May 30 at the Town ‘N’ Country Mall and the second annual “Art in the Attic” sale on Oct. 18 at the Moose Jaw Centre for Arts and Culture.
