This is what’s left behind at the Rocanville Fire Department when a call comes in.
Work boots, left behind in the rush from a long day on the job.
Lounge shoes, stepped out of as someone leaves their family at home.
The shoes left behind belong to more than just firefighters.
They belong to husbands, wives, moms, dads, brothers, sisters, friends, and neighbours — the volunteer members who make up the Rocanville Fire Department.
During National Volunteer Week, we want to recognize and thank these individuals who drop everything when the pager goes off. The ones who give up family time, birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, and sleep — all to be there for others on their worst days.
In the fire service, our number one priority is life safety — and that includes our own. At the end of every call, these shoes need to be filled again.
You can help us do that. Have and practice your home emergency evacuation plan. Slow down and stay alert when passing emergency scenes. Test your smoke alarms and follow fire prevention tips.
With your support, we can make sure these shoes are filled again at the end of every call.
From all of us at the Rocanville Fire Department — thank you to our dedicated volunteers, this week and every week.
