⚡️🧙‍♂️ Harry Potter Month Has Come to an End! 🧙‍♀️⚡️

What a magical month it has been at the library!
A huge thank you to Kylie and Kaitlyn for helping make our Harry Potter Month so special. From creating Harry Potter bookmarks, to our "Freeing Dobby" sock toss, and magical painting activities, your creativity and enthusiasm brought so much fun and excitement to our young witches and wizards.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to our generous sponsors, the Rossburn Thrift Shop and Ann Higgins. Your support help make these activities possible and allowed us to create memorable experiences for our library families.

A special thank you to Brenda Grabowski for donating additional Harry Potter books and décor, helping bring a little extra magic to our library throughout the month.

Most importantly, thank you to all of the children and families who participated. Seeing the excitement, creativity, and love of reading shared by our young patrons is what makes these programs so rewarding. And judging by today's attendance, the Cloak of Invisibility must have been in full force! 🪄✨

As always, it never ceases to amaze us how supportive our library families and community are. Whether you volunteer, donate, sponsor activities, or encourage your children to participate, your support helps create meaningful experiences and lasting memories for our youth. We are incredibly grateful for the kindness and generosity that continues to surround our library. ❤️

🍽️⚡️ A HUGE shout-out to Hanya's Ukrainian Cuisine for creating the most magical feast worthy of Hogwarts itself!

Our young witches and wizards were treated to an unforgettable Harry Potter-themed supper featuring:
🪄 Mrs. Weasley’s Honeydukes Sweet & Sour Spellballs
🪄 Mrs. Weasley’s Beef & Mushroom Gravy Charm Balls
🧀 The Chamber of Cheddar Mac & Cheese
🥓 The Chamber of Cheddar Bacon Mac & Cheese

Until next time—Mischief Managed! ⚡📚✨ but we're still dreaming about that Chamber of Cheddar! 🧙‍♀️📚🧀✨

The year was 1880 and John Duncanson was a 19 year old tourist from Scotland visiting the Rossburn area of Manitoba. He drew an instant liking to the area and stayed the winter of 1880 (wow), the next year he would buy a section of land in the area. After a couple years he would marry a lady by the name of Margaret young and they would have the first wedding in the Rossburn area, Margaret had recently came to Rossburn with her two brothers after they walked from Portage La Prarie.

In 1890 the construction of this fieldstone house began, while John was digging the well for the house he died after being overcome by gas, the stone mason building the house would die after falling into the well checking on John after hearing him struggle. A young Margaret was left with four children and an unfinished house. Through perseverance she was able to get a stone mason to come from Ontario to finish the house. She would successfully raise all four children and her family would live in the house until 1972.

I was very lucky to get the chance to talk to Margaret’s grandson Kenneth who was cutting the grass in the old yard the house sits on while I was there. He was the last person to occupy the house and is very proud it still stands. We talked for a while about the house and some other things, people like Kenneth are the reason I enjoy this hobby. It put a great smile on my face to hear his story and get the chance to meet him.

Filling out the 2026 Census is important for our community.

The census has been a part of Canada for a very long time and is used by Statistics Canada to help determine where funding and services are needed most. This includes things like hospitals, schools, housing, transportation, senior care, and local community programs.

Every response matters. When people don’t complete the census, their community can appear smaller than it really is, which can lead to reduced funding and fewer services—affecting all of us.

Some circulating messages suggest not completing it, but it’s important to understand: the census isn’t about politics—it’s about ensuring communities like ours are accurately represented and properly supported.

You’re not making a statement by not filling it out—you may be reducing support for your own community.

Please take the time to complete your census and encourage others to do the same.

⚡️ The magic has officially begun at the library! ⚡️

We’ve started our HARRY POTTER decorating, and let’s just say… things are getting a little magical around here 👀✨

It may or may not become mandatory to dress up and snap a photo when you walk in… we’re still deciding 😂📸

Sorting hats, wands, cloaks, and even a ride on the Nimbus 3000 are waiting for you—so don’t be surprised if you get sorted the moment you arrive!

Come join the fun, embrace your inner witch or wizard, and be part of the magic 🪄

The Rossburn Library just isn’t books—it’s a place where connections grow, curiosity is sparked, and meaningful experiences can come to life.

Through programs like chicken club, children aren’t just learning—they’re forming real bonds. Watching this young boy return again and again just to hold “Grey” says everything. He even made sure he had my open hours schedule so he wouldn’t miss a moment. That kind of excitement and commitment can’t be taught—it’s felt❤️

These interactions with animals help children build empathy, patience, and confidence. In a world that often moves too fast, something as simple as holding a tiny chick creates a sense of calm, It’s hands-on learning in its purest form.

Our Library is a place where memories are made, where learning goes beyond pages, and where little moments—like this one—leave a lasting impact❤️

Grey will be waiting for your next visit D💙
