I’ve been sick with a bad cold for the past few weeks, and yesterday my husband tested positive for Covid, so, needless to say, I have not been able to canvas recently and will be confined until we all feel well again. This situation has made me thankful that I have a doctor and that for emergencies, there is a hospital, though the emergency hours are still limited. John Higham and the Rural Health Action Committee have done great work recruiting nurses and RPNs and they report that morale at the hospital is greatly improved. But there is still a lot of work to do to recruit more doctors who want to work in the emergency room and lines of communication between the community and the hospital and Horizon need to stay open. Our hospital was built and funded by our residents over the years; its existence is vital for our aging population and for the student population; it is unthinkable that our hospital would lose its relevency.
Good friends brought me some treats from the Moonlight Madness Sackville Farmers’ Market and I have been so happy to read about all the events tied to Bordertown. Art, music, crafts, theatre, workshops at the Commons, celebration of the Canadian Wildlife Service and the Town’s Wetland City accreditation—we are so lucky to have all of these cultural activities in our community and good friends who make it all worthwhile.
Today was the first advance poll, and Monday, November 21 will be the second advance poll, both at the Middle Sackville Baptist Church. I hope that those who wish to vote in advance find it convenient to do so. On November 28, the main voting day, the poll is also at this location, and in response to letters written by myself, Mount Allison students and professors and other concerned citizens, a shuttle has been scheduled to leave every hour on the the half hour from the Tantramar Civic Center, and will also do return trips from the polling station at the Church by the Lake.
