Back in March, Sackville Rod & Gun Club volunteers Wayne Ward and James MacDonald taught NHWW Coordinator Rachelle Gariepy how to accurately shoot a target with a .22-calibre rimfire rifle at their Walker Road Range. It's safe to say they're exceptional instructors, even when working with a complete novice! We're fortunate to have such a generous, engaged group of volunteers in our community.
For those who may not know, the Sackville Rod & Gun Club applied for grants and are making notable accessibility upgrades at their Walker Road Range. This includes an accessible washroom, improved lighting for greater visibility, new signage, walker- and wheelchair- accessible shooting benches, safe access to the warming shelter and deck, and nearby parking on level terrain. These features are essential to remove physical barriers to participation.
π Accessibility means spaces can be fully enjoyed by everyone. π This allows all members of our community to be respected and have the opportunity to participate in recreational activities, including shooting sports, archery, and other outdoor pursuits. This encourages healthy aging and social connectedness, which align with both NHWW and Age-Friendly Community goals.
By thoughtfully planning and investing in accessibility improvements, the Sackville Rod & Gun Club is demonstrating leadership in building a more inclusive and age-friendly environment. Three cheers! π
We look forward to partnering with the Club to host a target practice event in the near future! Stay tuned for details.
