Seeking: Volunteer Drivers!
Objective: To provide safe, courteous, and reliable transportation for older adults registered with Nursing Home Without Walls (NHWW) Tantramar. Transportation includes trips to and from medical appointments, as well as select NHWW errand days, events and activities, at the discretion of the NHWW Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator.
Note: This is a volunteer position and is not considered employment with Nursing Home Without Walls Tantramar or the Drew Nursing Home. Volunteers are not paid for their time; however, kilometers driven for approved client transportation are reimbursed at a rate of $0.58 per kilometre, to account for vehicle wear and tear.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide free, courteous, and safe transportation.
Pick up NHWW clients at their homes and transport them safely to and from their destinations. Remain with client during medical appointment (times and lengths vary).
Assist individuals with getting safely into and out of your vehicle and to their appointment location, as necessary.
Ensure all applicable rules of the road and safe driving practices are followed.
Requirements:
The ideal volunteer will be friendly, dependable, punctual, and comfortable safely navigating between Amherst, Moncton, and the surrounding Tantramar area.
Be reliable, respectful, and discreet. Volunteers must sign an Oath of Confidentiality and must not share information or conversations involving clients or participants with anyone other than authorized NHWW staff.
Be comfortable using email, text and/or a phone to communicate about transportation requests and scheduled drives.
Be able to view and update a NHWW Google Calendar for drives (if necessary).
Provide a clear driver’s abstract, as well as Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector checks.
Have access to a reliable, well-maintained vehicle with a valid and up-to-date safety inspection.
Have the appropriate additional ($2 million dollar) automobile liability insurance required for volunteer transportation. The difference to your yearly auto insurance payment amount will be reimbursed by NHWW.
Have an understanding of healthy aging and an appreciation for the vision and goals of Nursing Home Without Walls Tantramar.
This volunteer role provides much more than essential transportation for older adults in our community. As a friendly and dedicated driver, you assist individuals with being connected, accessing crucial appointments and services, and maintaining independence while offering companionship and a welcoming, warm presence along the way.
Please reach out to Rachelle at 506-688-4688 or [email protected], if you're the right fit for this important role.
