Yesterday the Federal Government announced that new oil sands facilities and gas-fired electricity plants will no longer be regulated under C-69. These projects will now be left to the provinces to regulate and approve.

This fulfills a promise made by the Federal Government to Alberta in our MOU implementation agreement signed previously.

This reform will decrease costly duplication and regulatory uncertainty. It will also help our energy and electricity sectors attract investment and grow.

C-69 still needs to be either repealed or amended further to fully respect provincial autonomy and reduce regulatory uncertainty - and we will continue to pursue our case in front of Alberta’s Court of Appeal to help facilitate these needed changes.

However, there is also no doubt that today’s decision by the federal government is yet another needed step in the right direction for Alberta and all of Canada 🍁

Great news for Alberta’s education system. Our students rank #1 in the country and #8 in the world.

My sincere thanks to the parents and teachers who put real learning and critical thinking at the forefront of our children’s education. Congratulations as well to the students who did the hard work behind that result 👏

Almost 90,000 new students have entered Alberta schools in the past four years. That is the pressure our classrooms have been under, and this is our answer.

✅ Record funding of $10.8 billion this year
✅ 2,127 new teachers
✅ 1,044 new educational assistants
✅ 699 complexity teams supporting teachers with the toughest classrooms
✅ Since 2024, there are 173 school projects completed or underway

We will continue ensuring our students are setup to reach new heights in our education system.

Today the federal government announced counter-tariffs on U.S. goods and relief for Canadian businesses and workers impacted by this trade dispute.

I appreciate the federal government’s announcement that they will be providing businesses with greater access to liquidity, financing and other measures to help them withstand the impacts of the trade disruption. The federal package also includes measures intended to help businesses diversify their markets, strengthen supply chains and improve their resilience and competitiveness.

Alberta will continue working directly with small businesses and industry to understand the pressures they are facing and determine whether additional provincial measures are needed.

Alberta’s government remains concerned that tariffs and counter-tariffs increase costs, disrupt supply chains, put pressure on businesses and workers, and ultimately risk escalation to even higher and broader tariffs that will impact even more Canadians. We should do all we can to avoid further escalation.

There is still time before these counter-tariffs take effect on September 8, and I am urging the federal government to use that time to get back to the negotiating table with the United States.

Our focus must remain on protecting Alberta jobs, supporting Alberta businesses and keeping our economy strong through this period of uncertainty.

Once again, Alberta is leading the country in job creation.
Our government is committed to supporting students, workers, and job creators by strengthening our universities, colleges, and polytechnics across the province.
This includes $1.8 billion in capital investments for post secondary institutions over the next 3 years.
With a world-class higher education system, the lowest taxes in Canada, and growth in our major industries, Alberta remains the best place to live, work, and raise a family.
