Did you know that Ontario has 261 public libraries with over 4 million active cardholders?

This week, libraries across the province are celebrating Ontario Public Libraries Week, encouraging community members and cardholders alike to get "Loud for Libraries". OPLW serves as an important reminder to champion your local library, to show up for your library, and advocate for your library.

Just like the other wonderful libraries of Ontario, SCPL is a space for reading, learning, and reflection; however, we're a vibrant community hub for dialogue, creativity, connection, and civic participation.

Our seasonal Sunday hours kick off this weekend at:

📚 Dr. Huq Family Library Branch
Open Sundays from 12pm-5pm

🚢 Port Dalhousie Branch (Port Plus access only)
Open Sundays to Port Plus customers from 12pm-4:30pm

Come celebrate with us St. Catharines Public Library!

Join us Martha Tatarnic Plum Johnson Susan Scott and Carolyn Boll on Monday, October 19th at 6:15pm for our kitchen table conversation, an intimate twist on the traditional literary panel, called TELLING: Kitchen Table Tales.

Sir Isaac Brock died on October 13, 1812 at Queenston, Upper Canada, from wounds received in the Battle of Queenston Heights.

Though Brock met his end at the Battle of Queenston Heights, he was a unifying force for the people that came together to fight and share the victory that day. He secured alliances with Indigenous groups, and approved the creation of a Coloured Corps that trained at Fort George. While Brock died early in the battle, Captain John Norton's Six Nations Warriors harassed the forces who had taken Queenston Heights, keeping them at bay until British reinforcements could arrive. Because of Brock's work to unite the inhabitants of Canada, Major General Roger Sheaffe was ultimately able to lead a force of Indigenous Warriors and Canadian Militia, including the Coloured Corps, to repel the invaders; securing the victory at the Battle of Queenston Heights.

Brock's military achievements in the War of 1812 earned him a knighthood, membership in the Order of Bath, and the moniker “Hero of Upper Canada.”
