🌾🚜 ESAP Success Story! 🚜🌾

Here is our first of many remarkable success stories from our Essential Skills Achievement Pathway (ESAP) program is Grade 12 student Jax MacDonald in Ms. Maguire’s class! πŸ‘πŸŒ±

Through the Workplace Entry pathway, Jax developed the knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience needed to launch his very own business, MacDonald Farms. πŸŒΎπŸ…πŸ₯•

Last year, MacDonald Farms made its debut at the weekly market in Brundage Point, quickly becoming a local favorite and selling out on most market days! Building on that success, Jax is expanding his operations this year with a roadside produce stand beautifully situated along the Nerepis River. πŸŒ½πŸ“πŸšœ

Committed to sustainable farming practices, Jax grows all of his produce without GMOs or pesticides, providing fresh, locally grown food for his community. 🌱🌻

We are incredibly proud of Jax’s dedication, entrepreneurial spirit, and the positive impact he is making through his hard work and innovation. Your Viking family is cheering you on every step of the way!

πŸŒΎπŸ’š Way to grow, Jax! πŸ’šπŸŒΎ

πŸ•΅οΈπŸ”¬ Mrs. Butler’s Introduction to Forensic Sciences students wrapped up their coursework today with a mock autopsy investigation.

Students conducted both external and internal examinations of a rat specimen, applying the skills and techniques they learned throughout the course to determine the manner, cause, and mechanism of death.

πŸ€A special thank you to veteran Forensic Sciences student Lyra Suppa for helping prepare the specimens and support this hands-on learning experience. πŸ™ŒπŸΎπŸ€©

Great work by all of our future investigators! πŸ§ͺ🦴

Good morning, Vikings! 🌳

Here is today’s morning announcement from your B.O.O.T. Committee (Backing Off of To***co Committee) for Kick the Habit Week in our effort to decrease va**ng use and discourage others from starting.

Thursday (The Environment): β€œHey Vikings, it’s Thursday. Did you know e-cigarette waste is a massive environmental disaster? Millions of disposable plastic vapes and toxic lithium batteries end up in landfills every single year, leaking chemicals into our soil and water. Protecting your lungs also protects our planet.”

Did you know that cigarette butts are also the most littered item in the world? Many people think cigarette filters are made of cotton, but they’re actually made from a type of plastic that does not biodegrade. Billions of cigarette butts end up on the ground and in our waterways every year, where they can release harmful chemicals into the environment.

Every choice to stay to***co- and vape-free helps create a healthier future for both people and the planet. πŸŒŽβ™»οΈ

πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™€οΈπŸ”₯ Did you know that HVHS offers not one, but two Forensic Sciences courses?

Both courses are unique local options developed right here at HVHS. Mrs. Butler created Forensic Sciences 120, and thanks to its popularity, she later developed Advanced Forensic Sciences 120 to give students an opportunity to take their investigative skills even further.

Recently, our Advanced Forensic Sciences students completed a hands-on arson investigation project. Students designed and built model houses, created realistic arson scenarios, and then put their plans into action. Another group then stepped into the role of investigators, analyzing the fire scene to determine where and how the fire originated. πŸ”₯πŸ πŸ”

This project gave students the opportunity to apply forensic science concepts in a practical setting while developing their observation, analysis, and problem-solving skills.

Interested in becoming a forensic investigator? Students can enroll in Forensic Sciences 120 after successfully completing Biology 11, Chemistry 11, or Physics 11. πŸ™ŒπŸΎπŸ’«
