PLEASE HELP US PROTECT OUR PARKS

Unfortunately, we have been dealing with ongoing vandalism at the Milltown Ball Diamond throughout the season.

Our Parks crew spent time today carefully raking and lining the field in preparation for the Belyea Fundraising Tournament tomorrow. Not long after their work was completed, the field was damaged again. With the tournament taking place tomorrow, there is now no time for our crew to return and repair the damage beforehand.

This is incredibly disappointing—not only for our staff who put time and care into maintaining the field, but for the organizers, participants and community members who use and enjoy this space.

We are asking residents in the area for their help. If you see someone damaging municipal property, please report it. Being vigilant and looking out for our shared spaces can make a real difference.

Our parks belong to the entire community. Our crews work hard to keep them safe, welcoming and in the condition our citizens deserve.

To everyone participating in and supporting the Belyea Fundraising Tournament tomorrow, we are sorry that the diamond will not be in the condition we had prepared for you. We hope you have a fantastic tournament despite this disappointing setback.

Please respect our parks. Please respect the work that goes into them. And please help us look after our community spaces.

Dover Hill Park Update

You may notice that Dover Hill Park isn’t quite as full of blooms as usual this year. It seems some new four-legged visitors have discovered just how tasty our flower beds are!

Deer have moved into the area and have been enjoying more than their fair share of the park’s plants and flowers. Our team is working to clean up the beds and next year will be planting some deer resistant foliage as we accept our new neighbors, while keeping our Park flourishing.

We also want to remind motorists to use extra caution on Milltown Blvd, particularly around the bend at Dover Hill Park. Deer are active in the area and may enter the roadway unexpectedly.

Please slow down, stay alert, and keep an eye out for our new neighbours.

Thank you for your patience while we work to keep Dover Hill Park beautiful — even if the local deer have other plans!

🌿 Feel Good Friday: Barter Settlement & Mayfield 🌿

This week, we’re shining a spotlight on Barter Settlement and Mayfield, two rural communities that are full of natural beauty, history, hardworking people and plenty of local character!

🌾 Barter Settlement is home to beautiful stretches of farmland and rural landscapes, with agriculture playing an important part in the character and history of the area.

🌳 Milltown Catholic Cemetery — a place of remembrance and reflection, preserving the stories and memories of generations past.

🌿 St. Stephen Rural Cemetery — located just outside of Mayfield, this cemetery is such a special part of our local history and a peaceful place to honour and remember those who came before us. We couldn’t highlight this area without mentioning it!

⚒️ Pine Grove Construction — a local business helping build and shape our community, one project at a time.

💅 Nails by Kate Young — bringing a little bit of beauty and self-care to the community, and another great example of the local small businesses that help make our rural communities special.

🏞️ Potters Lake — accessed from Mayfield Road, this beautiful wilderness lake is another special part of the landscape surrounding these communities.

🏞️ Kendrick's Lake — another local lake found along the Mayfield Road, adding to the natural landscape and character of the area.

💡 Did you know? Potters Lake is a small 113-acre wilderness lake in Charlotte County that has even been documented in historical wildlife and fishery studies. In July 1939, researchers conducted experimental treatments at the lake to study aquatic ecosystems and plankton responses — a pretty fascinating piece of local history!

From working farmland and local businesses to historic cemeteries and beautiful wilderness lakes, Barter Settlement and Mayfield have so much to appreciate.

We’re proud to celebrate the people, places, history and natural beauty that make these communities such special parts of our municipal district.

Happy Feel Good Friday! 💚
