Good afternoon, New Brunswick, and happy Friday! If you're planning your weekend outdoor activities, you’ll want to take a close look at the official daily fire watch update on your screen, because conditions have shifted dramatically across the southern half of the province.
A strict Total Burn Ban (Red) has clamped down across five counties: Charlotte, York, Sunbury, Queens, and Kent. If you're in Fredericton, St. Stephen, Oromocto, Grand Lake, or Richibucto, outdoor burning is completely shut down for the next 24 hours. No campfires, no brush burning, zero exceptions. Meanwhile, Carleton and Northumberland counties have shifted into the Yellow restriction zone, meaning daytime burning is prohibited and you must wait for the safe evening window between 8:00 PM tonight and 8:00 AM tomorrow.
On the flip side, eight counties are still holding onto the Green with full burning permitted: Madawaska, Victoria, Restigouche, and Gloucester across the north, alongside Kings, Saint John, Albert, and Westmorland in the south and southeast.
Now, I'm sure this sudden slash of red right through the river valley and southwest has the local keyboard warriors in our Facebook comment sections spinning out new theories. They're probably drafting all-caps posts claiming Fredericton turned on a targeted weather beam just to ruin their Friday night bonfires. Take a breath, big guy, and unwrap the tinfoil. It’s not a deep-state agenda, it's basic Maritime physics. A blast of dry, gusty continental air pushed straight down the river corridor, dropping relative humidity into critical territory and turning fine surface fuels into a tinderbox, while marine air keeps the Fundy coast and southeast damp.

Une Interdiction totale de brûlage (Rouge) frappe de plein fouet cinq comtés : Charlotte, York, Sunbury, Queens et Kent. Si vous habitez dans ces secteurs, de Frédéricton jusqu'à la côte du détroit en passant par le sud-ouest, tous les feux extérieurs sont strictement interdits pour les prochaines 24 heures. Pendant ce temps, les comtés de Carleton et Northumberland passent au statut Limité (Jaune), ce qui interdit tout brûlage de jour et vous oblige à attendre la fenêtre de 20 h ce soir à 8 h demain matin.
La bonne nouvelle pour les autres : huit comtés conservent leur statut « Permis » (Vert) sans restriction d'heure, soit le Madawaska, Victoria, Restigouche et Gloucester dans le nord, ainsi que Kings, Saint John, Albert et Westmorland dans le sud et le sud-est.
