Simply Loved London Doula Hi, I’m Seanna! I’m a birth and postpartum doula in St Thomas, Ontario and serving London and surrounding area.

I’ve been daydreaming of supporting people in their journey into parenthood since my own journey began, so stepping into doula work felt like finding my calling. My goal as your doula is that you feel cared for, supported, and heard. I want you to have the perinatal experience that you envision, and I will do everything I can to help you reach your goals.

My doula work is informed by my own struggles with infertility, pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, mom guilt, and perinatal mental illness. I want to be the person I needed when I was struggling and couldn’t see the light at the other end. I can’t pull you out of the tunnel, but I can walk beside you with a lantern. I will be your advocate, your nurturer, your teacher, and your knowledge broker. In short, I will be your doula.

I can’t carry it for you, but I can carry you. (Samwise Gamgee, The Lord of the Rings)

Tonight at 7pm local time, you’re invited to light a candle in memory of the babies who have been lost. This creates a Wave of Light around the world to honour the memory of the grief that people often feel pressured to hide. ❤️

This has been the wildest ride of my life. It’s all very surreal and bittersweet, and my emotions are so incredibly complicated. I’m proud of the choices I’ve made. I’m also so tired of it all. I’m sick of the glaring gaps in the legal and medical systems, and I’m frustrated with doula organizations who stood by in silence. I’m tired of having to relive this to protect other people. I’m so thankful to the people who listened and so frustrated with the professionals who didn’t. I’m relieved that this project is finished, but sad that I won’t see as much of the people I got to know during filming. I’m sad for the people she victimized who feel ignored by the media coverage — to those people, I want you to know that I think of you often. I value your stories. To all the doulas and friends she targeted who did not speak out: I get it. You did what was right for you. Please know that I did what was right for me.

Obviously there are a LOT of other risk factors for the various postpartum mental illnesses, and “just go to sleep” is not always that easy when you have anxiety (trust me I am AWARE) but I think this is worth a conversation! I think it’s worth studying! How much are we meant to be supporting each other, and the loss of that support is turning us to meds that give side effects and don’t fully work? (I believe in science and medicine, I’m just saying maybe fewer people would need them if we found some non-pharmacological solutions built into our biology)

It’s taken years, many of us are still living with the lasting effects every day, and finally you’ll get a fuller picture of who she hurt and how. Episode 1 of Doula: A True Crime is being released on CBC Gem on October 7. The trailer’s on YouTube now. (not currently on Netflix)

Very much appreciate this note in the DNT Network doula training I’m working on! Establishing right off the jump that the training is back up by and based on evidence, not anecdotes. I’m about 3 hours into the training and I’m learning a lot!

Everything has been hard lately and it feels like we’re just jumping from one crisis to another, but one thing that has helped me has been finding a moment of joy in each day. Last Wednesday, it was that a client gave me a bunch of lavender from her garden. A couple days ago, it was that my daughter and I finally made earrings with some duck charms a friend gave us. Yesterday, it was my cat laying on my chest and purring just as I scrolled onto a TikTok video of ducks on a farm and it was such a peaceful moment of calm!
Share your moments of joy 💛

When I was pregnant I cried because a turtle bath toy was really cute but earlier today I cried because I drove past a kid with lemonade stand and I’m just not sure why no one warned me about this?

Were you warned about this???

Ask your doula about experience/training with these things if they’re relevant to you:
-High risk pregnancies
-Indigenous people/families
-Mental illness/mood disorders (prenatal and postpartum)

Don’t get TOO hung up on any one answer. Choose the doula you feel the most comfortable with. These questions help you figure out who that is!
