Today is 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀’ 𝗗𝗮𝘆 🚒

Elgin County would like to take a moment to recognize the courageous firefighters who serve our communities each and every day. Whether responding to emergencies, supporting residents in times of need, or promoting fire safety and prevention, firefighters are there when it matters most.

To all volunteer and full-time firefighters across Elgin County, and to firefighters everywhere, thank you for everything you do to keep our residents safe. Your dedication, bravery, and teamwork do not go unnoticed, and we are grateful for the service you provide every day.

This week, April 12–18, marks National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, a time to recognize and celebrate the vital role telecommunicators play in keeping our communities safe.

Often the first point of contact in an emergency, telecommunicators provide calm, clear communication and critical support when it matters most. Their professionalism, quick thinking, and dedication help ensure first responders have the information they need to act quickly and effectively.

Elgin County extends our sincere appreciation to all public safety telecommunicators for the essential work they do each and every day. Thank you for being the steady voice behind every call!

Elgin County congratulates Scott Wilkinson on his appointment as General Manager/Chief of Medavie EMS Elgin Ontario!

Scott brings more than 20 years of experience in paramedicine, system operations, leadership, and emergency communications, with previous roles in Essex County, Calgary 9-1-1, Alberta Health Services EMS, and the Oneida Nation of the Thames Paramedic Service.

He will officially join Medavie EMS Elgin Ontario on April 13, 2026.

We look forward to working with Scott in this role and supporting the continued delivery of high-quality paramedic services across Elgin County. 🚑

Congratulations to Firefighter Riley on successfully completing his Firefighter I, Firefighter II, and Hazmat certifications.

Riley completed this training through through the Elgin-Middlesex Regional Fire School and is a graduate of the 2025 Recruit Course. It’s great to see that training supporting his continued success.

Congratulations to Firefighters Murray, Fansher, and Pearce on receiving their Provincial Certifications in NFPA 1002 Pumper Operations, NFPA 1001 Firefighter, NFPA 1072 Hazardous Materials, and NFPA 1035 Public Information Officer.

All three received training through the Elgin-Middlesex Regional Fire School, and it’s great to see that foundation supporting their continued success.

𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘁 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 – 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟭 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴

Day one for the 2026 Fire Recruit Class focused on the fundamentals of firefighter safety. Recruits practiced donning and doffing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), along with safely mounting and dismounting apparatus.

These essential skills lay the foundation for safe, effective operations and set the tone for the training ahead.
