Community Update

For our friend and colleague Councillor Kevin Flynn from Salmon Arm’s City Council

We are writing to provide the community with an update about our beloved Council colleague Kevin Flynn.

Kevin, his family and friends are experiencing life’s most dreadful challenge, an unexpected cancer diagnosis and a very uncertain outcome.

Out of profound respect and with deep appreciation for his long service to this city, we have, as a group, made the interim decision to share his workload among us while he, the love of his life Cathy, their beautiful family and friends take the time they need to ensure his comfort in the weeks ahead.

While we do not know what the future holds, we are determined to offer grace and make space for what Kevin needs now. It is our view that this is the least that we can do. In fact, it’s what we must do now. And we will do it.

Please know that we draw so much strength from you, the community that makes our city what it is. Your compassion and your kindness have always been a cherished source of guidance and purpose in the work that we need to do together. We will need it more than ever.

Kevin always reminds us to hug our family and friends. He’s right. On that, we hope we can all agree. If you need a hug, or have an extra one to give, now is the time.

With profound gratitude from us all on behalf of our city,

Alan, Sylvia, Debbie, Dave, Tim and Louise

Thousands of census employees across the country are helping collect data that are vital to improving the lives of Canadians. These are your family, friends or neighbours making a difference for your community.

If you haven't completed your questionnaire yet and we follow up with you, here’s how to recognize official census communications:

πŸ“© Reminder letters will be sent by mail or delivered in person, which will contain a secure access code to complete the census questionnaire online.

πŸͺͺ In person follow-ups will be conducted by employees with an identification card.

πŸ“± Text message reminders may also be sent from the text message short code number 236732.

πŸ“ž If a follow-up phone call to a household is needed, the census employees will identify themselves clearly.

🌊 Shuswap Lake Levels at the Salmon Arm Wharf

Join Mayor Harrison as he tests the waters with Nick Parsons at Marine Peace Park to talk about one of the community’s most talked-about seasonal topics, Shuswap Lake water levels.

For years, Nick has been tracking and posting lake level markers at the waterfront, helping residents and visitors follow the annual rise and fall of the lake throughout the season.

Whether you check the markers regularly or are simply curious about changing lake conditions, this conversation offers a fascinating look at a topic that continues to capture attention year after year.

🚨 Bear Activity Reminder: Keep Wildlife Wild, Salmon Arm 🐻

The City of Salmon Arm has been receiving reports of bears accessing and damaging food-waste bins throughout the community, which is common at this time of year as bears search for easy food sources.

To help protect both residents and wildlife, all curbside bins and bags must be stored in a location inaccessible to wildlife when not out for collection. This includes inside your home, garage, shed, or another secure enclosure.

πŸ“… On collection day, place bins at the curb by 7 AM.
πŸŒ™ Please do not put bins out the night before.
🐾 Even one unsecured bin can attract bears into neighbourhoods.

Failure to follow curbside collection requirements under the City’s bylaw may result in a $150 fine.

Working together to reduce wildlife attractants helps keep bears wild and our neighbourhoods safer for everyone.
