This photo represents:
- Over 90,000 hot meals in a school year
- More than $600,000.00 invested in local Shuswap food businesses
- $415,000.00 spent on B.C. food
- Meal and snack programs at all 25 of our schools
- Countless students filled up with healthy, hearty meals.

Yesterday morning one of my team members had the privilege of getting a behind-the-scenes look at our local Souper Meals program, delivered in partnership with the Shuswap Food Action Society .

SD83, School Food Coordinator Serena Caner toured him through the Zest Commercial Food Hub , introduced him to the amazing team that has been feeding students across our riding, and showed him the tangible impact this program is having in the broader community through its unwavering commitment to shopping local first.

This program not only directly supports children and families, but also keeps public dollars working locally--benefiting small businesses, farmers, workers and our local economy.

"When students have access to healthy food at schools, families experience less stress, teachers see improved readiness to learn, schools become more supportive, connected spaces, and our communities benefit with jobs and economic activity." - Serena Caner

I would encourage anyone who is able to consider making a donation to the Shuswap Food Action Society to support the amazing work they are doing throughout our region. : https://shuswapfood.ca/

And a huge "Thank You!", to Serena, Shuswap Food Action Society, and everyone else who has invested time and energy into serving our region.

The latest Statistics Canada Labour Force Survey has once again highlighted an issue in our province. B.C.’s youth unemployment rate rose from 14.4% to 15.3% in May. Over the past year, more than 7,300 young people have left the province.

At a time when families are already facing rising costs and economic uncertainty, these numbers should concern all of us.

It's incredible to see that, here in Salmon Arm, one local non-profit is tackling this issue head on, by helping young people overcome some of the barriers they face when entering the workforce.

Launch works with youth between the ages of 15 and 30 and connects them with local employers so they can build skills, gain confidence, and find meaningful work. This is the kind of practical, community-based support that can make a meaningful difference.

Although I was unable to attend in person, I was grateful to have representation at Eagle River Secondary School’s graduation ceremony in Sicamous last night.

More than 30 students graduated this year, and local businesses and community members came together to provide over $55,000 in scholarships and bursaries for this year’s graduates.

Between that remarkable investment in local youth and a full gymnasium cheering them on, it was another reminder of what makes Sicamous such a special place to call home.

Congratulations to the graduates, their families, teachers, and the entire community.

And to the Class of 2026, remember, "Never underestimate yourselves." 🎓

Congratulations to all the members of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets 222 Shuswap Squadron on putting on a wonderful Annual Ceremonial Review this week.

The Air Cadet program gives young people valuable opportunities to build confidence and develop skills in leadership, citizenship, teamwork, and aviation.

A special thanks to the officers, volunteers, and families who invest their time and encouragement into these young leaders. As well as, local legions who have offered generous financial support to the program.

Wishing each cadet continued success as you take your next steps!
