❤️ September is Sickle Cell Awareness Month.

Sickle cell disease is an inherited blood disorder that affects over 6,000 Canadians. Learning more helps build understanding, reduce stigma, and create communities where everyone feels welcomed, respected, and supported.

At Shuswap Children's Association, we believe every child and youth deserves opportunities to thrive, and every family deserves a caring community that walks alongside them. 🤝

Today we remember those who have lost their lives to overdose, honour the families, friends, and communities who continue to grieve, and encourage compassionate conversations that reduce stigma and promote understanding.

In 2025, thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, we were able to support 438 local families with essential items like diapers, baby wipes, snacks, and formula for their infants and toddlers.

This year, the need has continued to grow. We're already at 347 Shuswap families supported - and we're on track to surpass last year's numbers.

We simply couldn't do this without the support of local businesses, community members, and so many BIG hearts. ❤️

What many people don't realize is that this program receives no government funding. Every diaper, every can of formula, every package of wipes, and every dollar donated comes directly from our caring community.

We also happily accept open packages of diapers! If your little one has outgrown a size and you have extras, don't let them go to waste - they can make a real difference for another family.

Every donation, big or small, helps ensure local infants and toddlers have the essentials they need to thrive.

📍 Donations can be dropped off at our office:
551 Trans-Canada Hwy NE, Salmon Arm
🕘 Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, to our amazing community for helping us care for its youngest members. Together, we're making a difference - one diaper at a time. 💙
