Salmon River Fire Brigade Receives New Equipment

For Immediate Release
October 10, 2026

TRURO – Salmon River Fire Brigade will be even better equipped to keep our community safe thanks to an investment of $30,000 by the Houston government, Truro-Bible Hill-Millbrook-Salmon River MLA Hon. Dave Ritcey said today.

The funding, provided through the Emergency Services Provider Fund, will help the brigade purchase new bunker gear, helmets, boots, gloves, flash hoods and pumping equipment to support emergency response and protect the people responding to emergencies.

“Salmon River firefighters put their own safety on the line every time they answer a call,” said MLA Ritcey. “New bunker gear, helmets, boots and pumping equipment mean they’ll be better protected and better prepared when they get to the scene. Our firefighters are always there for us, and this is how we back them up.”

Salmon River Fire Brigade is among 100 across Nova Scotia receiving a total of more than $2.7 million through the Emergency Services Provider Fund to support the purchase of emergency response equipment.

Individual grants through the Emergency Services Provider Fund cover up to 90 per cent of eligible equipment costs, to a maximum of $30,000 per organization. The fund also has a regional stream for emergency response organizations and municipalities working together on projects that improve emergency services across a wider area. Applications for the regional stream are open until October 31.
