It's been a truly wild 10 years at our location, and we are so grateful to everyone who has supported us over the years and allowed us to grow and expand in this incredible space. We would not be where we are today without all of you, so we want to invite you to come and celebrate with us!

We will have cake and refreshments to mark the occasion! RSVP by tomorrow, Wednesday, August 12th, to join us.

✨August's Volunteer of the Month: Danielle Oschanney✨

We are incredibly grateful to Danielle for the unbelievable dedication she has shown towards wildlife - dropping everything to run off on a rescue, stopping in to volunteer, and the incredible compassion she has for each and every animal. Danielle runs Prairiestorm Kennel in Martensville and found an injured robin in April and brought it to LSWR. That moment was the start of something wonderful!

"Since a very young age, I knew I wanted to dedicate my life to working with animals. Although my path did not ultimately take me to my goal of becoming an exotic veterinarian, I have been fortunate to train as a veterinary technologist, manage a pet supply/horse tack shop for many years, and dedicate the past 23 years to raising Labrador Retrievers and Brittany Spaniels. I have loved every part of my animal experience over the years.

I have always been impressed by everything I had heard about Living Sky Wildlife Rehabilitation and the work they were doing to help Wildlife throughout Saskatchewan. When I moved back to Saskatoon a couple of years ago, I told myself that when things settled down, I would volunteer. This spring, when I was attending a yoga class, we found that a bird had flown into the glass of the studio window during class. I immediately contacted Living Sky and brought it in. I took this as my sign to stop procrastinating and signed up to volunteer that day.”

THANK YOU, Danielle!! 💙

Don't forget the lid! 📣

If you've managed to contain an injured bird to transport to a wildlife rehabilitation centre, don't let your efforts go to waste: put a lid on it!

Just because an animal is injured does not mean they won't try with all their might to get out of the box. After all, you are the predator, and they are the prey, and they will use their last burst of adrenaline, even despite the pain, to escape.

PLEASE, remember the lid! 📦

NOTE: Ensure that the lid you are using has holes in it to allow airflow, especially if there are no other cracks on the container to allow air in.

Do you love birds? Do you have time to volunteer this fall? 🐦

Bird Friendly Saskatoon is seeking volunteers to survey buildings in downtown Saskatoon for evidence of bird-window collisions starting in late August. Survey shifts will be done in the morning and take 1.5-2 hours.

Understanding where birds hit windows is the first step in trying to fix problematic windows and raise awareness about this important conservation issue! Window collisions are almost entirely preventable, yet claim the lives of up to 42 million birds per year in Canada.

No prior experience is needed, and training will be provided. Ideally, volunteers can do shifts twice a month or more. To ask questions or express your interest, email [email protected]!

📣 Beach Volleyball Tournament: CANCELLED

This year, with tight timelines, quick turnarounds, and many other events happening at the same time, we have decided to cancel our annual beach volleyball tournament.

HOWEVER, while this event will not go ahead, we have ideas in the works for a NEW and exciting event! Once we have the fine details down, we will share more, with hopes of it taking place either late this year or early next year. Stay tuned!
