🇩🇪🇬🇧 German Words in English: Rucksack! 🎒

Did you know that the English word “rucksack” comes directly from German? 🤔

In German, “Rücken” means back and “Sack” means bag. Put them together, and you get “Rucksack”, literally a bag carried on your back! 🎒

The word made its way into English and is still commonly used today, especially in British English and outdoor activities like hiking and camping. 🥾🌲

Another great example of how the German language has influenced English! 🇩🇪❤️

Did you know that Kronau, SK, a hamlet about 28km southeast of Regina was named by the early settlers in the late 19th century, many of whom were German-Russians?

According to the local Kronau museum, the settlers named the settlement “Kronau” after the Kronau-colony in now Ukraine, where they had lived in Russia before coming to Saskatchewan.
