This week, River Heights will finish off their Terry Fox fundraiser, bringing in an incredible $9,200 (so far)! 🏃🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ The school earned some pretty sweet rewards for reaching fundraising goals:

At $4,000, students Kayshanaye and William got to be “principal for the day” - helping out in the office, making announcements, and more.

At $5,000, interns got a pie in the face (pictured here, Mr. Eisler being a great sport).

At $6,500, Vice Principal Mme. Schubert, who is expecting, did a gender reveal. It’s a boy!

And at $7,500, Principal Ms. Hilsen coloured her *real* hair pink with *real* hair dye.

The school is accepting donations until October 15, so last minute donations could push that number even higher.

École River Heights School is just one of the many schools all across the city who have worked hard to carry on Terry Fox’s legacy, making a significant contribution to cancer research. Congrats to all who participated this year! 🙌

📣 It’s time for the October meeting of the Saskatoon Public Schools Board of Education.

Tonight’s meeting (Oct. 13) kicked off with a show and share featuring STARLAB! 🌎✨

Education consultants Jaime Schroeder and Alisha Demmings, STARLAB-trained teachers Maxine Panchuk and Brianna Aubin, and a Buena Vista School student shared how this portable planetarium brings curriculum to life.💡

STARLAB transforms school spaces (typically the gym) into immersive learning environments where students can gather inside the dome to explore stars and constellations, the solar system, Indigenous astronomy, space exploration and more. 🌌

With two STARLABs available for schools to borrow and another at Brightwater Science, Environmental and Indigenous Learning Centre, students across the division have opportunities to experience learning in a whole new way.

And it’s an experience that sticks! Many teachers and parents can still fondly recall their own STARLAB visits from childhood. 💫

Montgomery School recently hosted a special visitor! 🍁 The Honourable Jill McKnight, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence, visited the school to share what it means to recognize veterans' service. She emphasized the importance of remembering those who have served in Canada’s military, including those we may know directly and those we may not, and reminding each other of their contributions.

Montgomery Place has deep roots in Canada's veteran community, having been established as a neighbourhood for returning veterans after the Second World War. Many students mentioned family members currently or formerly serving, creating personal connections to the learning. Students placed the names of veterans in their lives beside the cairn outside the school as a reminder of their service.

We’re grateful to Minister McKnight for being a part of this learning!

Toshani, a Grade 12 student at Centennial Collegiate, will be proudly representing Saskatoon Public Schools on the Saskatchewan Youth Council this year! She'll join students from across the province to provide feedback to the Ministry of Education based on her and her peers' experiences. 🤝

A passionate advocate both in and out of school, Toshani has already spent years advocating for young people with autism and ADHD. She's also keen to discuss artificial intelligence with the youth council.

We're so proud to see her bringing a Saskatoon Public Schools perspective to the provincial table, and we can't wait to follow her journey throughout the year! ⭐

Dr. Simranjeet Singh (2nd from right in the first photo) is in the final year of his residency in emergency medicine. Despite his admirable title, his former teachers at Bedford Road still know him as Sim! Sim completed his International Baccalureate diploma at Bedford Road Collegiate, and says the program put him on the path he's on today. He sees it as his responsibility to take stewardship of the opportunities he's been given in life and use them to support others who may not have had those same opportunities.

This was just one of many inspiring messages shared on September 29 at Saskatchewan IB Day, hosted by the International Baccalaureate Organization and the Prairie Association of IB World Schools. IB Day was a chance for multiple organizations to come together and discuss how IB can best empower students to succeed and make outsized impacts in their communities. Aden Bowman and Bedford Road Collegiates are both proud members which offer the program.

🗳️ Ward 5 voters: Meet your trustee candidates tonight (October 6)!

Saskatoon Public Schools is hosting a Ward 5 By-Election Candidate Forum, giving voters an opportunity to hear directly from the five candidates seeking election.

Candidates will introduce themselves, share why they’re running for trustee, answer questions from the community, and discuss what they would bring to the role.

📍 Silverwood Heights School

The five candidates are Murray Guest, Kim Hoffart, Doug Porteous, Janet Uchacz-Hart and Ryan Vanjoff. All five have been invited to participate.

Ward 5 includes Brownell, Lawson Heights, River Heights, Silverwood Heights, Silverspring and Marion M. Graham Collegiate.

The Ward 5 trustee by-election takes place October 28, 2026.

Today, we celebrate the care and skill they bring to their classrooms, and the difference they make in the lives of students.

💚 October 2 is Custodian Appreciation Day — and we have a great one to appreciate at Division Office: meet Alex! 👋

Alex’s contributions are invaluable, and we’re so grateful to him and his team for everything they do to keep Central Office humming. From the everyday work that keeps our building running smoothly, to stepping in when the unexpected happens, we can always count on them. 🙌

Today, we extend that appreciation to all of the caretakers and building operators across Saskatoon Public Schools who do so much to support our schools and workplaces every day.

Their work is essential to creating safe, welcoming, and well-cared-for spaces for students and staff. They keep things running, solve problems big and small, and continually go above and beyond. And in our schools, they’re also familiar, friendly faces who build connections with students and staff and help create a strong sense of community. 🏫💚

To all of our caretakers and building operators: thank you for everything you do. Your work makes a difference every single day, and we appreciate you! 👏

September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day, held in honour of Survivors and those impacted by residential schools.

Across our division, schools are hosting activities for students to learn and remember. At École Dundonald School, the theme was “We Are Still Here” - a recognition that Indigenous cultures, which include First Nations, Métis/Michif, and Inuit, continue to thrive and innovate. It included stories written for kids by Residential School Survivors. Traditional Knowledge Keepers and community Elders/Old Ones also hosted academic stations to share about Indigenous games, arts, dance, math, and science.

This learning isn’t just for one day or one week; events like this are held throughout the school year to continue the conversation.

On September 30, we hope everyone has the opportunity to observe and participate in a day of reflection, learning, and time spent with family and community.
