It’s day four of Saskatchewan Mining Week!

Did you know SRC has provided various air quality services to different industries in its 80-year history?

In the 1980s, SRC built a radon chamber to test the effectiveness of HEPA filters against radioactive aerosols. Throughout the decade, SRC also evaluated commercial dust monitors used in potash production environments.

Today, SRC offers radon test kits through Lung Saskatchewan. These kits are an easy and effective way to test for radon, a colourless, odourless and tasteless radioactive gas that can escape from the ground and enter enclosed spaces, such as homes or offices, and can sometimes accumulate to high levels that are harmful to human health. You can’t always see what’s in your drinking water💧

For well water at cabins and acreages, plumbing and natural ground conditions can influence what’s in your water. Metals like lead, copper, arsenic and uranium aren’t visible, and changes often go unnoticed.

Testing gives you clarity.

It helps you:
✔️ Understand what’s in your water
✔️ Get a more complete picture with updated testing methods
✔️ Make informed decisions if anything needs attention

It’s not about expecting a problem, it’s about knowing where things stand and staying on top of your water all season long.

We’re continuing our celebration of Saskatchewan Mining Week by looking back at our innovations for the mining industry.

Did you know that in the late 1970s potash operations had to leave roughly 60 per cent of the ore behind to use as structural support pillars to prevent water flooding and protect against mine collapse?

To find a better solution, SRC designed and built instruments that could measure rock pressures to identify weakening structures. This data helped develop safer mines, extend mine life and increased ore extraction.
