Mother’s Day can hold many emotions all at once.

Today, I’m thinking of and honouring the mothers who gave birth, the mothers who adopted, the mothers who stepped in, the mothers who long to be mothers, and the mothers who mother in ways the world may never fully see.

As both a social worker in private practice and an adoptive mom myself, I know motherhood is built in so many different ways — through love, attachment, presence, resilience, grief, healing, and showing up again and again.

I’m also holding space today for those who are grieving their mothers, missing complicated relationships, carrying loss, or finding this day difficult for reasons others may not understand.

Whatever this day looks like for you, may you treat yourself gently. You are allowed to feel joy and grief, gratitude and sadness, all at the same time.

Happy Mother’s Day to all who nurture, love, protect, and care. 🤍

Much love from ML Counselling Services

May is Mental Health Awareness Month 🧠💚

As an MSW in private practice, I’m reminded every day that mental health is not a luxury—it’s essential. Whether you’re navigating stress, grief, anxiety, or simply trying to keep up with the demands of daily life, your experiences are valid and worthy of care.

This month is about reducing stigma, increasing understanding, and encouraging honest conversations. You don’t have to wait until things feel overwhelming to reach out—support can be part of maintaining wellness, not just responding to crisis.

Take a moment to check in with yourself (and each other). Small steps matter.

Sitting in audience of the "Let Them" tour this visual hit me particularly hard.

We ( myself included!) spend so much time telling ourselves we’re “running out of time” or that we’re somehow behind or that its "too late".

But when you actually see your life mapped out in weeks, something shifts ( it certainly did for me)… you realize how much life is still sitting in front of you, how much time you still have to live the life you want, whether it's self-improvement, relationships, or healing from trauma.

I realized as I was sitting there that as a therapist in private practice, I hear it all the time from my amazing clients :

“I’m too old to start over.”
“I should have figured this out by now.”
" Why do I keep repeating the same mistakes?"
" Why do I stay in the relationship "

But the truth is: you likely still have thousands of weeks ahead of you. You have enough time to :

- to learn coping strategies
- to heal.
- to rebuild relationships or end unhealthy ones
- to be a better parent
- to become the version of yourself you keep putting off.

The pressure to “have it all figured out” softens when you zoom out and you realize that you arent out of time....you’re in the middle of it.

What you do with your weeks matters more than how many have passed!

Still buzzing after seeing Mel Robbins live ✨
As an MSW in private practice, it was so powerful to sit in the audience and be reminded why I do this work. Her message about mindset, taking action, and showing up for yourself hits differently when you spend your days helping others do exactly that.
It’s easy to get caught up in the clinical side of things, but this was such a needed reminder of the human side—growth, courage, and the small decisions that change everything.
Feeling inspired, re-energized, and grateful to be part of a profession that helps people step into their lives in a bigger way 💛

I get a lot of inquiries asking whether or not i work with teenagers! And the answer is yes! Working with teenagers is a meaningful part of my work as a private practitioner.

Adolescence is a critical developmental period marked by identity formation, emotional regulation, and increasing autonomy. Many teens are navigating complex experiences—peer relationships, family dynamics, academic pressures, and mental health challenges—often simultaneously.

In therapy, my focus is on creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where teens can build insight, strengthen coping skills, and develop a more grounded sense of self, skills that benefit them well into adulthood!

I get this question a lot! And I get it, the thought of therapy can be a bit overwhelming!

So… what actually happens in your first session?

✨ You’ll be welcomed into a safe, non-judgmental space.

✨ We’ll chat about what brought you in (at your pace — no pressure to share everything at once) I highly recommend writing some notes before our first session!

✨ I’ll ask some gentle questions to get to know you and your goals

✨ We’ll start to figure out what support might look like for you

Oh....and you can ask me any and as many questions as you like! It's important that you feel comfortable with me !

Remember, there’s no “right way” to show up. You don’t need to have the perfect words, a clear plan, or even know exactly why you’re coming.
Just come as you are!
