For the last two weeks, we have been asking candidates in Wards 1 through 5 a series of questions specific to business and our local economy. Today, in our final question, we ask why they have chosen to run for City Council in our upcoming election.

**Big Visions. Small Businesses. Stronger Communities. **

Every great business starts with a vision, and this Small Business Week 2026, the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce is celebrating the entrepreneurs, innovators, and small business owners who turn those visions into reality!

Small businesses are the heart of our local economy, creating jobs, driving innovation, and strengthening our community.

This week, we're putting local businesses and their voices in the spotlight through two important Chamber events:

**Take 5 – Love Local | October 20**
Join us at SOO MRKT as we celebrate local businesses, hear their stories, build connections, and recognize the passion and determination behind our business community.

**Municipal Election Mayoral Candidates Forum**
An opportunity to bring business priorities to the forefront! Hear from candidates as they discuss the challenges facing our local business community, share their proposed solutions, and outline their vision for supporting economic growth in Sault Ste. Marie.

**Because supporting small businesses means more than celebrating their success — it means listening to their challenges, advocating for their needs, and helping create an environment where they can thrive.**

This Small Business Week, let's celebrate local ambition, encourage meaningful conversations, and work together toward a stronger future for Sault Ste. Marie!

The city is developing a municipal framework for data centre development.

We asked candidates in Wards 1 through 5 what three conditions they would require in that framework to gain their support toward any larger-scale application?
