Applications for the 2024 Ancestry Continuing Education Award are now open. This scholarship, valued at $1200 CAD, is open to members of the BIPOC community who are pursuing an education in the field of archives and records management. The award also includes a complimentary membership to the ACA for one year. The Award is administered by the Association of Canadian Archivists Foundation.

September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as 🧡

Algoma University will be hosting events to honour this significant day on Friday, Sept. 29th. Join us in wearing orange shirts to raise awareness about the intergenerational impacts of the Indian Residential School system and support the movement.

We'll also encourage the community to stand together, learn, and support the journey toward healing and reconciliation. Join us for a series of in-person and virtual events that are open to all:

Resource --- In collaboration with the Survivors' Secretariat, Know History has developed a resource to support Indigenous Nations in their continuous work to find unmarked burials and missing children associated with residential schools.

Researching the Missing Children: An Introduction to Conducting an Archival Research Project provides an overview of the archival research process and how historical documents can support this important work.

“Researching the Missing Children: An Introduction to Conducting an Archival Research Project” was developed as a resource to support Indigenous Nations in their ongoing work to find missing children and unmarked burials associated with residential schools. The booklet provides an overview of how historical documents can support this work, and an introduction to the archival research process. The booklet has been provided as a physical resource at the National Gatherings on Unmarked Burials that have been held across Canada. The Children of Shingwauk Alumni Association (CSAA)Annual Gathering is this weekend from August 4th - 7th, 2023. This year’s theme is Celebrating Our Footsteps: Our Journey. It will be a celebration of the milestones of the CSAA and Survivors, and sharing a vision for the future. Registration will be start tomorrow (Friday August 4th) at 3pm.

An open mic night is happening on Saturday Aug. 5th, so feel welcome to bring your guitar, drum, favourite song to sing, or another special gift to share.

An Every Child Matters Memorial will be dedicated at Snowdon Park in early-August.

The Children of Shingwauk Alumni Association will be hosting the event as part of a gathering of former students, family of former students, and their supporters each year on the Shingwauk Historical Site.

The memorial, which honours the lives of four boys who drowned at the site, will be dedicated on August 5
