Sault Ste. Marie Indigenous Friendship Centre

Sault Ste. Marie Indigenous Friendship Centre Friendship Centres are not-for-profit and charity corporations that are mandated to serve the needs of our community members.

All programs for the Indigenous Friendship Centre are available to those who are Status, Non-Status, Métis, or Inuit. We will not turn away anyone from attending programming or receiving services. Some individual programs may have additional referral requirements such as N’Mminoeyaa Health Clinic, Life Long Care, Employment Unit. Call the Program Coordinators for more specific program. Our Beliefs

:

In providing a safe and secure environment for the people we serve
In the freedom of the individual’s right to choose their belief
In the equality of all ages and races
In promoting the wholistic approach to a healthier way of life, and
In the reinforcement and revitalization of our Indigenous heritage.

Our precious Elders are the heartbeat of our community. Their wisdom strength and resilience and teachings continue to guide and Inspire the future generations. We are honored to walk alongside them and create opportunities that support health, well being and connection to one another. Today our elders are participating in movement exercises as part of our Healthy Living Program, with Lan Gao. These activities promote physical wellness, mobility, balance and social connection while creating space for laughter encouragement and friendship. Our Elders are truly precious. We hold them in the highest regard and are grateful for the knowledge the stories and the love they share with us. We cherish each opportunity to support them, to learn from them and to show them the respect they so richly deserve. Their presence strengthens our community. We love them dearly.

☀️ Join us for an inspiring evening with internationally recognized Anishinaabe speaker, author, educator and language advocate James Vukelich Kaagegaabaw as he shares teachings on Mino-Bimaadiziwin—The Good Life Through Anishinaabe Teachings.

Drawing on the wisdom of the Seven Grandfather Teachings, Anishinaabe language, and traditional knowledge passed down through generations, James will explore how our teachings guide us toward balance, wellness, strong relationships and a deeper connection to our communities and the world around us.

This is a wonderful opportunity for community members, families, educators, and anyone interested in learning more about Anishinaabe culture, language, and ways of living.

🎉✨ Chi Miigwech, Sault Ste. Marie! ✨🎉

We are incredibly honoured and grateful to have been nominated in the 2026 Community Votes - Sault Ste. Marie awards! 💙

At the Indigenous Friendship Centre, being recognized for the work we do means so much to us. Every day, we have the privilege of supporting our community, creating opportunities for connection and helping our relatives stay connected to culture, community and one another. The programs and services we offer are important, but what we cherish most are the relationships we build along the way.. many of which grow into friendships and connections that last for years.

If you would like to support us, we have been nominated in two categories:

⭐ Non-Profit: The Indigenous Friendship Centre
https://saultstemarie.communityvotes.com/2026/03/services/non-profit

⭐ Children's Activities: Urban Indigenous EarlyOn
https://saultstemarie.communityvotes.com/2026/03/parenting-and-childcare/childrens-activities

Your support means the world to us, and we are so thankful to everyone who continues to walk alongside us, participate in our programs, attend our events and support our mission. ❤️

Congratulations and good luck to all of the amazing local organizations, businesses and community groups that have been nominated this year. We are proud to be among so many people doing great work in our community.

Miigwech for your continued support! 🦅💙
