Today we celebrated some incredible firsts:

• We broke ground on our first development in Ottawa;
• We welcomed over 100 partners, community members, and allies to witness and share in our cultural groundbreaking ceremony; and
• We celebrated our unique partnership with First Unitarian Congregation of Ottawa - a faith community that is deeply committed to Reconciliation.

Odayanhaway is the future site of Indigenous-led housing at 30 Cleary Avenue in Ottawa. Built on land donated by the congregation, the development will provide 66 new Indigenous-led rental homes, including both below-market and deeply affordable units, owned and operated by Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services (OAHS).

The ceremony was a powerful reminder that building Indigenous-led housing is about more than bricks and mortar. It’s about creating homes where our Relatives feel a genuine sense of belonging to the community.

Thank you to everyone who joined us today, and to all our partners who are making this vision a reality.

OAHS is in Ottawa this week to attend the 2026 Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference in Ottawa.

OAHS' CEO, Justin Lewis; OAHS' Senior Director of Policy and Stakeholder Relations, Chelsea Combot; and OAHS' Senior Director of Housing Development, Cathy Connor, will join thousands of participants at the annual conference.

OAHS will have the opportunity to attend key delegation meetings with provincial ministries to advocate for government-wide collaboration on Indigenous housing priorities, including increasing access to Indigenous-led supportive housing, housing for Indigenous youth leaving care, and scaling up Indigenous-led housing solutions across the province.

We look forward to speaking with elected officials, partners, and allies while in Ottawa, and to meeting the 422 municipal members across the province, as we discuss issues dear to our hearts: housing, growth, and the escalating pressures on municipal services.

Today, on International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, we honour the knowledge, leadership, and contributions of Indigenous Peoples everywhere.

This year's theme is "Honouring Indigenous Midwives: Safeguarding Life and Well-being." It reminds us that midwifery and Indigenous-led community housing share a common thread: both are acts of reclaiming the conditions that allow Indigenous people to live safely, on their own land, on their own terms.

A midwife safeguards life as it begins. Indigenous-led community housing provides the stability people need to thrive throughout life.

At Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services, we believe true housing solutions are rooted in culture and community. We stand with Indigenous communities and the incredible work underway to preserve languages, protect the land, and pass Traditional Knowledge to future generations.

Miigwech to the Elders, families, communities, and leaders who walk this path with us every day.

Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services (OAHS) is pleased to announce that the Ontario Priorities Housing Initiative (OPHI) Multi-Unit Repair Funding Request for Proposals for 2026-2027 is NOW OPEN.

Under the Ontario Priorities Housing Initiative (OPHI), the Multi-Unit Repair funding component provides financial assistance to renovate and/or rehabilitate off-reserve social housing or affordable housing rental properties.

Multi-Unit Repair funding is used to assist Indigenous not-for-profit housing providers of eligible affordable and social housing rental buildings to rehabilitate units that require essential repairs and/or modify units to increase accessibility.

Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services (OAHS) is pleased to announce the Indigenous Supportive Housing Program (ISHP) Capital Funding for 2026-2027!

ISHP is designed to address homelessness within the Indigenous community, which is one of four Provincial homelessness priority areas.

Reducing and preventing homelessness within the Indigenous community also supports the Province’s three additional priority areas (i.e., chronic homelessness, youth homelessness, and homelessness following transitions from provincially-funded institutions), as there is an over-representation of the Indigenous community within these homelessness areas.

The purpose of this Request for Proposal (RFP) issued by Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services (OAHS) is to provide Service Providers with an opportunity to be selected as a recipient of the Capital component of the Indigenous Supportive Housing Program (ISHP) funding in 2026-2027 by:
• Defining their supportive housing needs;
• Informing OAHS about their ability and capacity to deliver support services for the Capital development;
• Identifying potential community partners;
• Showing confirmation that their organization has the capacity to develop supportive housing.

For more information, visit:
https://www.ontarioaboriginalhousing.ca/programs/ishp

If you have any questions, please contact Karen Benford, OAHS Programs Manager, at [email protected] or 1-866-391-1061 ext. 318, or please email [email protected]
