Same 911. Same Ambulance Communication Officers. Same Paramedics. Same Commitment. 💛🚑

During Paramedic Services Week, we’re recognizing the people behind every emergency call, and sharing a quick reminder about what to expect when you dial 911.

It’s been over a month since the Medical Priority Dispatch System (MPDS) was introduced in Sault Ste. Marie. Here’s what that means for you:

✔️ 911 is still the number to call
✔️ Life-threatening emergencies still receive immediate response
✔️ Ambulance coverage remains the same

You may notice you’re asked more detailed questions when calling. That’s a key part of the system—helping ensure the right care is sent, as quickly as possible.

By working together, callers, Ambulance Communications Officers, and Paramedics, we’re strengthening how emergency care is delivered in our community. 💛

This Paramedic Services Week, we’re recognizing the incredible dedication of paramedics who are there when it matters most.

Did you know you can support paramedics by knowing when to call 911?

✔️ Call 911 for life-threatening or urgent medical emergencies
✔️ Stay on the line and answer questions clearly. This helps get the right care to you faster
✔️ Be ready to provide your location and details about the situation

Every call matters. Knowing when to call helps ensure paramedics are available for those who need them most.

Thank you to our paramedics for your skill, compassion, and commitment to our community—today and every day. 💛

Last year, a powerful story was shared across our community when two of our Community Paramedics helped a local resident experience something special with his family, one last time.

CPs Mitch and Jay supported Gary Duke so he could attend a Soo Greyhounds game with his family, shortly before he passed away. 🏒💓

Stories like this remind us that paramedic care is about more than responding to emergencies. It’s about supporting people and families through some of life’s most difficult moments.

That’s what Improving Outcomes, Together can look like: Compassion, teamwork, and care that helps create meaningful moments when they matter most.

It's Emergency Preparedness Week! 🚑🦺

Did you know things like clear pathways to exits and address numbers on houses, working smoke alarms, and avoiding driving during extreme weather conditions can all make a big difference?

Not only can these steps helping first responders get to you faster, but they can also help prevent emergencies from happening in the first place.

Paramedic services play a critical role in our community—responding to 911 emergencies, providing urgent medical care, transporting patients, and increasingly supporting people in their homes and connecting them to the right services.

In the District of Sault Ste. Marie, our paramedics respond to more than 24,000 calls each year, with teams deployed across our service area, supporting over 80,000 people, to ensure timely, effective care when it’s needed most.

As community needs continue to grow and change, paramedic services are evolving. We’re planning for the future, and your input matters.

We’re asking residents to complete a short survey (under 2 minutes) to share what’s working, where improvements are needed, and what matters most when care is needed
