2118: Schreiber Fire Department and Terrace Bay Fire/Emergency Services are responding to reports of a bush fire near Simon Street in Schreiber, about 500 feet from the road. Please avoid the area.

2135: Fire is out, crews returning to hall.

At 11:25 pm (29 May 2026) we began receiving 911 calls regarding fireworks starting a wildland fire in Rossport between the park and the water treatment plant. This is an area of tall dry grass and small Alders. Pumper crews from Rossport and Schreiber attended, along with an automatic aid pumper from Terrace Bay. It took crews 90 minutes to extinguish the fire. No structures were damaged, and no injuries were reported.

The fire was numbered as Nip006.

As a reminder, under the Wildland Fire Management Act, section 30:

"No person who discharges a firearm, a flare, fireworks or explosives in or within 300 metres of a wildland area shall leave any residue from the discharge unextinguished".

A person can be charged under the Wildland Fire Management
Act and may be held responsible for the cost of putting a fire out.

MNR permits for unorganized areas can be applied for by calling Geraldton Fire Management Headquarters at 807-854-0558.
