THANK YOU! On Sunday, July 26th, we had our second annual swim fundraiser. In 2025, we raised $1500, this year, we raised $3500.. With this money raised, we can now help more families have access to safe swimming with family and single memberships for the summer, as well as subsidize both private and group swimming lessons.
Learning to swim is a valuable skill that needs to be learned. With the community's help, we are now able to help more families than we did last year.
A total of 13 swimmers tackled their own distances, 60 km was swam between everyone. Our very own head supervisor, Savannah, swam a total of 15km alone, with her fellow guards, friends, and family members cheering her on along the way.
This is the second year that Savannah has organized this fundraiser, here are some words from her!
"When I started this fundraiser last year, I did not think we would raise even $1000. The community stepped up, and we surpassed that goal. This year, we doubled that number. I have never been more grateful for a community in my life.
I grew up with the privilege of a backyard pool to learn to swim in, and took swimming lessons yearly. I found the importance of learning to swim, then fell in love with the sport. I now have the privilege of not only teaching others to swim, but also am able to see swimmers fall in love with the same thing I did.
The 15km swim was one of the hardest things I have ever done, not only physically, but mentally. The last few kilometres went by slowly, but I am so glad I did it. It made me even more grateful for the opportunities I was given as a child and teenager.
I am so happy that I can say I had something to do with helping a young person have the chance to reach for the stars as I did. I do not have the words to explain how thankful I am for all of the amazing swim instructors and coaches I have had over my swimming career, and I hope that with the money raised, a young swimmer can have the same positive experiences I had.
Because of the community and their generous donations, we can help so many families who see the importance of learning to swim but cannot afford it themselves. I am so beyond appreciative of the support that we received for only the second year of the fundraiser, and hope it continues in the years to follow. Thank you."
